Excelsior D retexture WIP - Updated!
« on: December 31, 2004, 02:51:12 am »
Well Azel and Atlom, etc...

You all remeber this ship! I started on her a few hours ago just to see what she would look like with a more TNG Movie look for her. So I decided to make her and it will be a long WIP process which i will probably put in here. Yes the textures are a bashed version of Smiles Tempest it was done so I could get a quick look at her.

It is some one elses model actually I am just changing out the textures on it, but I do agree I never liked he pointy buzzards either.

Updated pics!

Now have most of the Engines done as well as the top saucer done. Still have its light map to do for the upper saucer windows. But once that is done and the symbols on the engines replaced I will have the model 75% done only thing left will be the lower saucer which will be the majority of the work

Basically every thing is done but the lower saucer, I have the layout lines on it but not any details yet.

Well removed waht I was doing on the bottom for the shots here. As you can see I have matched up that back grounds and finished off the top, Engines and lower Hull. Also need to sort out premissions as the readme in the Zip was a empty file. Any one remember who it was that did the orginal?

Well what you wanted to see the Pictures  ;D

Great work...and I think this is an Azel/Atolm original.

Here are the updated pics.

Still have the pods to add and the windows. Not really sure if I am going to though now as it is starting to look a little cluttered. Though I thimk the pods should be added I will have to test it out first and see if I like the idea. Windows need to be added just because well everyone likes to look out windows. Not going to add to many windows though, just one ring of them on the inside ring. Also added a Captains Yacht to the bottom (textured only) just because it seems what all the newer ships in the TNG area had.

Well because the texture is round and streched across to oval surface the pods don't look right so I removed them. I don't like the look of the windows on the floor so they are not going to be added. It means I have some area now that needs to filled but that will not take long. So if I can figure out permissions I will see about releasing this ship, once that is acomplished. It is set up for SFC 3 but that also means it will work in SFC 2 just the HPs will not be in a logical order.

So here are some After and Before Pictures, hopefully so some one can tell me to whom it belongs.

The Saucer ones were completely replaced and the other one is a combo of yours and mine then. Do you know who did the model and orgianl textures by any chance. The Readme for the ship is blank.

The detail is looking VERY nice.  Good, crisp lines.  Hull plating work is good ...  and I like the pylons too !!

I'm taking some picts to study what you have done ( if that's cool !)

Be my guest.
I should have saved you the work up files though you would have really liked those. It shows the layers and how I used them, but they have already been deleted which is normal once I finish something.

Still waiting for DD to get back to me, then out the door she will go. It also means I get to keep playing with it and adding details, instead of finishing those other models I should be doing :)

Maybe, perchance, please, with your next project save the psd's...those would make an awesome learning tool. :)

They are actually done in PaintShop Pro version 8.1.

I still have one from the Excaliburs I did, it is a more simple one that I made for Don Dawson to help him learn texturing and layering. The ones from the Excelsior D get pretty complex about the saucer and may not be as helpful anyways. The Detail layers have allot on them but the Glow and Backgrounds can be useful. Normally the more complex ones are not as useful, they will not show erasing or overlays and raster compacting to form a detail(s) area.

PM me a E-mail address and I can send you the one for the Picture below. It is a overly simplified one but it get the point across. It is also one I don't mind sharing as the Excaliburs are a finished product as well as the Blue Fleet I was doing. Only two ships on the Blue fleet are left and have been in a unfinished state for over a year now. Only reason they will ever get done is for Mackie, as they were ships he wanted.

Don't have max, only got Milkshape running last night and you can not render with it. The Fuzzy stuff if because the model viewer is low resolution to begin with and then it has to be converted to a Jpeg for the forum to upload it. I will reload the game and see if it gets any better there, but I would not get my hopes up unless someone with max does it for me.
