Expert advice needed on model hardpointing.....
« on: December 28, 2004, 09:49:18 am »
Hi all, hope Santa brought you everything you wanted...

Now, to the point...  In a hardpointed model there are listed the weapon hardpoints and then there are some others.. Now I'm guessing that they relate to damage points and what have you but this seems to vary from model to model...

Most of them go:

a1
a2
a3
b1
b2
b3
c1
c2
c3
d1....... etc etc

But some go:

damagepoint1
damagepoint2
damagepoint3 and so on...

My question really is what do all the various alphanumeric designations relate to and why are there so many of them (a1-3 thru to f1-3), furthermore, why do some models not have them and have the "damagepoint" ones instead....?

Oh, and which is the correct way of doing it?

Cheers in advance......

the a1,a2 system is correct.  I'd be willing to bet that the damagepoint 1 setup doesn't actually work at all.

The damage points A1-F3 indicate where the ship is most likely to be hit by enemy ships - dead easy.

If you imagine the model is a hexagon A1-A3 would refer to the forward side of the hex, B1-B3 refer to the Forward/Starboard side, C1-C3 refer to the Aft/Starboard; D1-D3 refer to the aft side; E1-E3 refer to Aft/Port and F1-F3 cover the Forward/Port side.  Where you actually locate them within the model depends on where you think the ship should be hit from those sides.

Why some are named damage1 etc, I'm not sure, I've never seen that myself, and I'm unsure if it will work or not.

PS - I'm hoping you're asking because those Roms are due for release...
