Is EAW dead?
« on: December 25, 2004, 12:06:04 pm »
I recently moved to Canada and as such I had to get rid of a whole lot of my stuff. Included in this was my long-held Starfleet Academy, SFC1, SFC:OP, and SFC3 games. I held onto SFC:EAW because I liked that better then OP cause the X-ships and playable Orions were a bit annoying.

Now that I'm here and have all this free time on my hands, I decided to come back on GameSplat and give it a go. Unfortunately I find that everyone is playing SFC:OP or SFC3! Crap!

So, I was just wondering--especially after the lack of players on GameSplat and the complete absence of posts in the EAW forum--is EAW officially had it's chips? Are there any EAW'ers out there I can play with?

Dead is a strong word  - let's say there are fewer EAW players these days. I would honestly say that OP 3.4 would be a good choice for a balanced game, perhaps in mid era, if you don't want X Ships.
..Because the game does not have to, and will not, remain the same..

There are a few servers with EAW at war going and i know there are few mods out there for them but for the most part SFC2 OP and SFC3 are the games at the moment in Orion Pirates the scripts from EAW have been ported over to OP all ISC campaigns.I am sorry to have to tell you this but it is the truth I know someone who will be working on something for EAW down the line. You could look around for OP in a new or used Computer stores or gaming stores and try the buy&selll shop locally for these games first before you go to Amazon or E-bay.I hope I helped you if not let me know.

That is a nice sig there being a DD.How about you consider joining the Elite Federation Force we are recruiting for more information PM  Pestalence he is on these board as well it would be a great to have you aboard.

To  answer your question EAW is not dead there is just not enough people playing it .OP3.4 is not compatible with EAW only OP hence OP3.4

EAW is a subset of OP. ie. everything in EAW is also in OP. Op also has, as you point out, other stuff, like playable Orion races and X-ships. It also has more than just that though, it has more weapons arcs, it has maulers, it has ion storms, it has slightl;y better graphics, and most importantly, it received several patches that fixed a lot of bugs (such as the neutral coop bug) which EAW still has. OP can be run as an EAW game simply by not using X-ships and Orions, as happens regularly in D2 campaigns, hence OP has become the game of choice.

If you can, try to get another copy of OP.  :)

No X-ships on SFB-OP and the cartels are used as new empires mostly (with engine doubling disabled)!  8)

Lots of OP campaigns that run now use only a few empires anyway with no X-ships usually, OP has more fixes and you can still get the same feel.

Dead. Hm.. *thinks*.

.. perhaps dead to me? I haven't touched it in months, and haven't played with it in years.

Everyone, thanks for your responses, I appreciate them. it certainly looks like I'll be on the lookout for another OP.

Age, thanks for the compliment on my sig, but the Aeolus is a Hermes-class scout. I'm doing sigs based on my character's career in my ST stories. :-)

Tiger, I will do that very thing. When I remember my own sign in name I'll send it your way.

Tracey, OP has ion storms? That's cool! I did have OP but I don't remember anything like that.

So, like I said, I'll be looking for another OP because I'd like to join in the online fun once again.
