SFC 3 availability?
« on: July 27, 2005, 01:04:49 am »
This is my first post but I seem to feel quite familiar with this place after the many days of searching this board (and the 'Net in general)  :) I finally found the unfortunate answer to my question in an old post from April.
http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163354479.0.html

First off, I must admit that it's quite refreshing to see a forum as civilized/friendly as this one seems to be!

I purchased SFC2 EAW right after it first came out and the orig SFC before that, that I used to play multi with my friends. And then for some reason I stopped playing.  Just out of the blue I came across OP for sale cheap (~$10) on Amazon.com and I picked it up and got back into SFC!  ;D  Noooow I think I remember why I stopped playing ... I suck at it....baaad..even just against the AI!!  But I still really like the thrill of commanding a ship in the Star Trek universe!  In my search for help I came across this site and other FAQ's and such but also read about SFC3!  This seems like something  that I could get into AND even more, be successful! ( & have fun!)

But $99!!(at Amazon.com)  I almost croaked!   :o Ebay isn't much better, still selling over the MSRP from 3 years ago! (This would probably make for a good term paper for some Econ. major somewhere!)

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find a legit copy?  I know there are a lot of people on this board that really don't like SFC3.  I would be willing to pay a reasonable price....just not the astronomical prices on ebay and amazon.

Thanks
-T

Heya T, welcome to our little corner of the universe. In that thread that you
posted a link for, there is a post from Harry. Harry is a really cool guy who works
for Paramount Pictures and he stops by here every now and then. In that thread
Harry offered to hook up one of the people there with a copy of SFC3. Harry posted
his email addy so you might try dropping him a line and see if the offer is still good.

Hopefully you'll get some good news from him.

Make yourself at home and enjoy your stay here.   ;D

There's also one at the link in this thread http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163358664.0.html that is an auction for a copy that is signed and unopened. And is currently much less than the $99 at amazon.

I did notice that, but I looked closely and saw that it was a signed and sealed copy. I'm sure somebody much more involved would probably want this as a collectors item.  I'd just tear into it so i could play the game)  :o  ;D

T, how about this, if Harry doesn't hook you up then send
me a PM with your name and address and I'll send you mine.
My copy of the game has been sitting in my garage for almost
a year now and if someone can get some use out it then I'm
groovy with it.

Just promise me that if you get tired of it that you pass it on
to someone else and not sell it.   ;D

Wow! That's a mighty nice offer!  Thanks! :notworthy:  I sent Harry an email early today, so I'll give him a couple days to respond back to me.  Otherwise, I'll PM you and we'll work something out.

Hey T,

Don't know if you got your copy or not, but I just got in a copy of the game from Italy (paid $55 with overseas shipping).  The cd cover and instruction manuel are in Italian but the game itself is in English.  I've never played the American version so I don't know if there's any difference between the games but it plays pretty good.  Other than the directx 9 error that is (which is how i found this website while looking for a fix for it) and with no problems.  Well my point of this post is to let you know to search for the game under internation sellers on ebay and you might be able to find one for much cheaper price.  Good luck on your search.
