I've still got Win98 on an old Celeron that's still up and running in addition to XP on my new ones.

Still using Win2000, its the most stable OS I have ever seen by far.  I'll take Win2000 over XP's bloat and registration any day of the week.

I'm running XP pro on my desktop & server, i have to say that I'm quite happy with the stability of XP, several months+ for the server and several weeks for the desktop, compared to 98's Several minutes max.

Windows XP.  I like the system, it is easy to use, with very little confusing, even to me.   ;D

I was quite happy with 98 when I had it.  Of course, I didn't know any different but my desktop machine stayed running for weeks when it ran 98.  It seemed to have a memory leak though, and after about 3 weeks running it would run at half speed.

Max, what's a memory leak?

A bug in a program that prevents it from freeing up memory that it no longer needs. As a result, the program grabs more and more memory until it finally crashes because there is no more memory left. In this case Win 98.

For memory leaks, try http://www.memturbo.com

I've been using it for years..frees up memory, especially the leaks...run it every morning and have set it to try and keep 512 Meg free at all times (unless actually needed)
