UAW Test Server!

Its on the UAW shiplist as is, using the SFB-OP mission pack (installer now updated so that the SFB-OP-04 mod is not required to install just the missions).

Political Settings:

Stock late map, late era start, initial PP 10000, 10 minute turns, DV shifts of one, draft radius zero, movement of one, mandatories only on enemy territory, up to 5 missions offered at once, destroyable bases, gamespeed 9, cheap supplies and repair...

Webmap

The server will keep sync with any updates, which will require resets, until an official server starts. This is just for testing and for fun.

Why, pray tell, have the Lyrans been marginalized while another race gets to
use our interface?
I mean is there some kind of financial compensation in place?
Very dissapointing.

That would have been Chris' decision in shiplist design (passes buck...), I imagine to feature the new races of the mod in empire slots. In fact I think earlier versions did not have the missing empires placed in the available cartel slots at all! So count yourself lucky the Lyrans are there now.

Anyway, one could desgin a server to feature the Lyrans with this list if desired, this server was just put together as a quick and general test as I wanted to try it on a D2. (the dyna is my lazy way of playing SFC now, no gamespy or single player skirmish setups involved... just login and play!)

So get busy "Lyran Server Design Guru"! ;) I'm still waiting for an LDR server designed on SFB-OP...  :P

Yeah a Lyran server would be cool.
Actually have the basics for one down and was perparing to try and get it set up
Then had the insight of
 "What happens on my Lyran server when a bunch of people who have never flown Lyran before show up
and kick my ass ?"

Lyrans plans are on hold for the moment.

Spent an hour or two on it, great stuff Bonk, Chris, etc.
One quibble though, you may want to lower the expendible prices/repairs...
One screwup and you have to fly ~5 missions to get back on par, the missions I've been getting have taken 10 to 20 minutes (damn fed uber-ships!) so it takes a bit.
Oh ya, I really, really hate that Voyager thing... Janeway will get her cumuppance!

Ya we have a few suggestions for the first reset:

1) Change gamespeed to 9
2) Move Cardies to Alliance and the Breen to the Coalition.
3) and reduce expendables costs / repair

It is fun!  8)

P.S. The Fed LAK+ is bugged, it comes up damaged in mission - I'll see if I can fix it serverside.

Hey Bonk, this mod looks REALLY cool, however, do you realize that I would have to be online a week solid to get this over dialup?

I want to play, and have it stored for posterity, so would it be possible for you (or someone else with it) to toss me a CD?

IndyShark, I Just reset it according to the above 3 changes... (was futzing with shiplist to try and correct a few issues but couldn't do it quikly, I'll just wait for Chris' next update)

Maxillus, there is a CD distribution too I think, Chris or Josh can give you the details.

I just got off the server. The only word I has is WOW! Chris, Bonk and I had some amazing missions. What a blast.

I have not had this much fun playing SFC for a LONG time.

I guess I'm on the other side of the coin Indy,  I haven't been this bored with so many new toys in a long time.

The models, sounds, weapon effects are however spectacular, and I'd love to use some of those in settings simmilar to stock.  However, running around in ships with power ratings in the hundreds and carrying 100 spares just isn't my cup of tea.  The mod might, however appeal to those who enjoyed SFC#3, but I wasn't one of those either. 

Its worth a look to draw your own conclusions about, and if nothing else for the models, sounds and weapons effects.

Making notes here..

On the server side can we have no Starbases or Planets as DNs? I actually got into a planet defense but one of the allies spawned was a Starbase. The game thought it was standard ship because of the shiplist. The Base spawned close to the planet and came in contact with it - and immediately exploded, damaging many allies in the process.

The Dominion crashed on me tonight - I was with another guy in a joint Base Defense mission with a lot of action on the screen and Boom - mission over. We both lost the extra ships we had and gained no prestige. It may be in the shiplist - I think it happened when fighters (PFs in this case) were launched by some ship. It may be shiplist problem  -  I'll post here what I find about that.

Also -  in the shipnames.gf, please make a note to change USS Constitution III to say 'USS Defiant'. I'll have some other name changes as we get along with this.

This is such a blast its hard to stop, lol.  ;D

I tried to fix it in a hurry last night but the shiplist generated errors in AI creation on server start when I did so, so I just put the original back in as it starts error free. (I must have made a boo boo)  I'll take the time to make those changes correctly tonight if I can.

I'll run FireSoul's all ships model checker on it today before I go to work and let it run. Then check the log.

I've been enjoying it too. I don't think Chuut is giving it a fair shake. I had the same initial impressions, but played it some more. Yes it is a bit like SFC3 but there are still seeking weapons, fighters, weasels... I find it a pleasant break in the routine, perfect for a fun server.
