Spaceship Two

Quote
We?re developing a much bigger spaceship named SpaceShipTwo, one that could carry nine people and allow them to float around the cabin when they are weightless. It would also fly higher, and further down range. So this is going to be a craft that could do sustainable business for a long time, flying thousands of people.

And so the privatization of space begins!!!

It is about damn time...

Hopefully the government won't interfere too much....

I think this is awesome.  Man will only really conquer space when private industry and people get involved.  The govt roll should be limited and I really hope they don't muck it up with too many rules too early.  These folks are willing to go out and prove this can be done, I say let them go.  Honestly there will probably be casualties along the way (and I think they realize this) but what endeavor in human history that was worthwhile hasn't been dangerous?

Yep.. some estimates are that 1 galleon in 5 or 6 never made it back from the Americas, yet look at the result of that.  What if the Spanish had said, "Cripes.. we have a 20% casualty rate.  This cannot be tolerated".

I couldn't agree more. I have gone so far as to suggest one-way manned probes and to begin the genetic engineering of our species for multigenerational space travel to various planetary destinations.

But these "spaceship 1, 2" deals are supposed to be the prelude to commercial spaceflight for intraplanetary journies - no need to take any risks to go to New York... A train would do.
