"For the glory of the Praetor"...(Update with 2nd variant)..
« on: December 15, 2004, 05:45:04 pm »
MY GOD IT'S NOT A CHANDLEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay chaps, a bit of a departure for me but here's something I've whipped up whilst I take a breather from Chandley's and associated derivatives. On reflection I think it's more fun making non-fed ships, anyway this is a Rom BC clearly inspired by the V-30 "Winged Defender" and I'll make clear now that this is a new ship class larger in size than FASA's on which it's based... Anyway, a couple of current wip's and still some things need doing.  The poly count is getting a bit much due to my ridiculous obsessiveness about detailling and such.....

Anyway, there you go............  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Comments, as always, are appreciated.....

I know it's based on a FASA design... but the feet... :skeptic:... uhm... well, I've always though them to be a little 'over the top' if you know what I mean.

I like the strongly avian design; it's a good TMP link to the older Roms and the TNG stuff that we see later on. I've just always thought that the 'feet' were taking it a little too far.

Other than that, I really like it- I've always though that this was too fierce a design to be a light cruiser. Nice to see it beefed up a little. Can't wait to see it skinned!

The feet (possibly where people's opinions will be the most divided) will look great when they're textured.

Honestly, they will, I got it all figured out......  ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

;D Nicely done. I can't wait to try her out. The ball/claw weapons make me think it could pass for a Reman design too.

I think that if you made the two panels on the back dorsal area come together and meet it'd give it a more TOS rom shape without making it look retro, too much. On the other side of the spectrum, possibly making the "head" a seperate command module connected by "struts", something like the D'deridex (sp?) would link it to the TNG era. how's that for going from one extreme to the other? ;)

It's a great looking model though. The TMP Rom selection is a little bit thin and this makes a really nice addition.
If Romulans aren't cowards, then why do they taste like chicken?

On a side not looks more like a ship from stargate than a rom one... either way... hope you finish it!!! ;)

Thank you all..... I do intend to get this finished soon though wether that's before the end of the year yet, I cant be certain.... Still some details to be ironed out and I've slight modified the rear so it looks less blocky... Now all i have to do is figure out how to cut some polys out... I think this may need a separate "low poly" version.....  :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Without doubt the Type 2 Winged Defender has always been my favourite FASA Rom ship, and this is the best I've ever seen her modelled.  Exquisite.

Now, has anyone ever done the original Type 1?

I love the tiny "planets" in the claws.  Nice extrapolation of the TNG emblem, there...  :D

.... well the emblem is kinda what got me to do it this way though it's never been made clear when the Romulan Government actually started using it... In fact, if I think hard enough, thats about the only "canon" bit of representative symboligy I've seen, don't think there was any shown in TOS... Anyway, back to the model, I've made some changes (for the better) and I'll post some wip's if you're interested...

Thanks for all the positive commentry   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Very very nice work; I always liked strongly avian designed Romulans too.
This too is one of my favorite designs too, this is a fine newer take on a good design. You took it in a great direction. The "feet" are fine, leave them.

After you get done with this design, could you please model Azel's D'Voridex or Vreenac, seen here-
http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163349344.0.html

or this D'Probix?
http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163349863.0.html

You really know how to bring out the sleekness, grace, and malice I think Romulans encompass.
