Ship Restrictions <poll on server idea>
« on: December 14, 2004, 06:39:59 pm »
Hey all
Been toying around with different ideas for server set up.
Wondering if we did things kinda opposite to normal.
Would you be interested in a server that the Starting ship was a BCH.
(BCV's/DN's would be assigned at server start)
However the yards wouldn't build anything bigger than a CCH.
ie once you lose your starting ship it's gone.
BCH's and begining DN's would still be upgradable.

I think this would work, problem is it really dosn't give the player something to wrok towards.
If the server was geared more towards PVP I *think* that would be OK,
but sometimes I'm completely off base on what you sim... err gentlepeople think.  ::)

As BCH's would be starting ships I'm thinking it would be a late era start.
(<not sarcasm>if I'm wrong don't hesitate to point this out- just dont have the SL atm ,and to be honest i don't know what year late starts)

I'm thinking that upgrades will be used the same way as on the GW series, with the idea that starting Dn's or CV's can be upgraded
to their respective "Improved" version.
BCH's would be upgradable to BCV's (or F/T/whatever) I guess

Honestly part of me is just wondering how may people would still have their original ship after 2 weeks or so.

EDIT: Look at it this way. KCW style server (PVP based for all intents and purposes)  Everyone who signs up starts with a C7
Each side also gets, say a C10 and a C8V. Yard won't produce anything bigger than a D7W /FDW. Once the C7's are gone they're gone.
The time scale of the campiagn (as I see it) is one of months, maybe a year or two. DN's and BCH's won't be constructed at the rate they're destroyed.
C10 could be upgraded to a C10K, save with C8V. One or two C7's a build cycle could be upgraded to C7V. But your house will not be able to build any new BCH's.
Of course if you capped one I suppose you could use it ... but has anyone ever capped a live BCH?

How are you supposed to get upgrades if the shipyards don't make any BC's or larger?

Yards could produce the upgrade variants, just not supposed to buy them unless you're upgrading.
