Is that not the baddest naval combat movie ever?     Was just on HBO, great film

You KNow the wife and her Family and Myself watched this the other day. I loved the Naval Battles, I really did, But Having read the Books, I was somewhat dissapointed with the Whole Movie.

I can't put my finger on It, and It's not the Country Differance, It just Went wrong with me someway.

Then again, (Bracing for Negative Karma here) I didn't like Braveheart either.

At first I was annoyed that the plot didn't really follow any of the books (The Far Side of the World plays out quite differently). However the more I watched the movie, the more it grew on me. There are so many little things in the movie that are faithful to the books that I couldn't help but liking it. Most importantly, they were able to develop most of the main characters more fully than I ever expected.

And yes, the fighting was good.

   I really enjoyed it from one who plays Age of Sail 2 Privateers Bounty .The British ship is a real named ship but I can't find any reference to the French ship.The ships that are in AOS are mostly non fictional they did exist.It was very real unlike the Pirate Movie with  Johnny Depp.Braveheart is another good movie although I have yet to sit through the whole flick as it is long movie.I would say that both movies are really great.

I was just talking about this to DH and I told him that sailors back then make us look like wussies now... What a BRUTAL TIME. I'd like to know where this saying came from: 'He's tough as nails'. The Bob Villa show?

In the book, I have been told, the ship was American.  Is there a listing of an American one with that name?

It was the USS Chesapeake, which was fictional.

The ship in the book was based on the 32 gun frigate USS Essex which was actually armed with 40 32 pound carronades and 6 18 pound long cannon.
