Shiplist& Mission Questions!
« on: December 07, 2004, 04:15:12 pm »
Yes, I'm almost finished banging my head against the wall and fifuring out how the map thingy works.
Now it's time to work on the all important shiplist.

1) When I want to "duplicate" a race's ships using another races slot, is there a faster way then doing it one-by-one
in Shipedit or text editing?

2) R restricts everything out, what's the one that lets the AI (only ) use a ship?

3) What do increasing/decreasing sensor & scanner stats do? Anything gamewise?

4)For missions -should they be tested for every server or can you say "this mission pack worked on the last server, it will work on mine"?

1) Learn how to use Excel and it is quite easy to cut & past stuff where you want it.

Makes a job like that much easier.... ;D

2) No idea

3) Nothing that I know off... well, increasing it may give you more drone control

4) No idea

The 'R' restriction means it won't appear in the shipyard but AI generation will still include it. To keep it out of the shipyards and prevent AI generation, mark it as 'Special'.

The Sensor rating in SFB is the number you need to get on a 6-sided dice roll in order to obtain a lock on to an enemy target. This number is usually 6 at the beginning of a scenario, and damage to sensors can cause you to lose a lock on. The sensor rating is also the highest amount of combined power you can put into ECM and ECCM.

The Scanners in SFB effect the quality of the lock-on. Damage to scanners will cause weapons to become inaccurate, as scanners become damaged they would add +1, +2 to each weapons fire dieroll (which in SFB made them worse).

Since there haven't been any mission script updates in a while, then most should have all the latest mission scripts available... also anyone using OP Enhancement Pack v2.1 has all the latest mission scripts installed already.. all they would need is your shiplist and ftrlist and possibly models if you are including them and / or the model.siz file if you resized ships and the NWMissionConfig.scr and Met_NWConfig.scr files if you edited the settings in those..

other than that.. you're good to go.. make sure that  if you edit those script files that your installer backs up the originals and restores them upon uninstall... mod Chooser should be able to handle everything else except Models, so if you include custom models, then make sure that their folders are of different name than the stock models....

anyhow.. I hope that this helps.

MS-Excel is your friend. :D

You need to find a scripter that will enable restricted ships in the missions.

If you are not playing around with merged shiplists and/or donor ships from other race slots, but are basically adding, deleting, modifying ships, in the FF thru BB classes and in the pre-existing empire/cartel race slots, then you should be OK.  Anything else needs to be heavily stress tested out.
