Mapmakers
« on: December 05, 2004, 04:27:21 pm »
A few questions that I can't seem to find answers too
1) Whats the higest /lowest econ you can make a map hex without screwing something up?

2) What's the highest/lowest DV you can make a map hex without screwing something up?

3) What effect does econ have? Is it only what ships (how many etc) are produced in the yards?

4)Do I have to do anything with cartel settings in a two empire (Kling & Fed) map?

5)Do I have to have ALL the empires have at least one hex on the map, or just one "allied" hex for each race?
(ie in the Fed/Klingon map, do I need all six other races, or just say Gorn and Rom)

6) What the heck does a "shipping lane" do?

1&2 - 100
3 - imagine that bpv = economy. So you want 2000 bpv worth of ships made, u'd better have 2k econ. Loose, but it fits.
4%5 - yes. all races/cartels should be placed on the map regardless of what you choose, but some argue this.

Keep in mind that you dont want any empire's within 500 econ of each other or it causes needless ranking news reports. So ladder step each cartle and race so their econs are all a bit different. ;)

Thx Diz
is the lowest setting for econ 0 or 1?

And Uhmm if the highest I can make one hex is 100, and I need all the cartels & empires to be at least 500 apart
isn't that going to take up alot of hexes?

The main thing to make sure of, is that no two empires or cartel begin with the same econ, this will cause the econ news thingy to go haywire.

Not really... cuz they can be a 100 apart. the problem is if all the empires are 100 apart and then thru some mysterious alignment of the planets and an eclipse thru war they homogenize and all merge crashing your server because the news buletins go haywire. Best to give the empires a bit of econ diversity. Any yes, a hex can have 0 econ, but dont give an empire 0. A DV low would be 2. Hexes flip at 1 and 0. So 2 is the lowest. Might use 2 on SG4 is a cpl places and call it the Bermuda triangle, unreinforceable hazardous space with rare raw materials, VC hexes in other words that are exempt from the deepstrike rule. Makie it interesting, ya know.

Can't you just stop the 'newswire' from being used?

I mean they are, for the most part, useless.

Anyone know (And I know some of you do  :P ) what the main Fed planets are in SFB?
I assume Earth, Vulcan and Andoria, but is there a list of other (important) ones?

I know Orion is another big player in the Federation.

According to the F&E rulebook, the planets in the Federation core hex are earth, Vulcan, Rigel, and Andoria.

Orion is the capital planet of the Orion province, and is a member of the Federation with special priveleges.

Another planet I can remember from Journey to Babel is Tellarite homeworld, which I'm guessing would be Tellar.

In the fictional Star Trek universe, the United Federation of Planets is a federation of more than 150 member planets and thousands of colonies, based in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants of the Milky Way galaxy. It was founded in 2161 by the Andorians, Humans/Terrans, Tellarites, and the Vulcans.

Loosely based on the United Nations, the Federation stresses the values of peace and cooperation. One of their most important precepts is the Prime Directive. It is led by the Federation President, headquartered in Paris, Earth. Starfleet is the primary defense force and exploration arm of the Federation.

The Federation is opposed at various times by the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, the Tholian Assembly, the Cardassian Union, the Borg Collective, the Dominion, and the Sphere Builders.
