Hoi Bonk,

I am glad to see this as I was thinking of making a post asking players how they find it worthwhile to make time to play a server, yet refuse to make time to show up for a simple test that will allow for servers to be improved upon.

We all love the game; we all know it needs to be improved; we all know that the people devoting so much time and resources need numbers to see if a given setup will work under game-like circumstances, but the majority of players still do not show up. It is a very confusing and unfortunate situation.

This is what we do for a test. Get as many players to log on, go to a selected hex, pile in and start drafting like crazy. If the server holds up to the stress, great we move on, if it crashes, great, we found something, changes are made and do it again  a few days/weeks later untill all of the bugs are understood. If people show up at the scheduled time(s) the whole process takes only a few minutes. It is really that simple. A few minutes of your time translates to awesome servers.

The powers that be are providing tools and resources for our community to work with, please show up for the tests.

Take care

drb

Bonk,

If a stress test is scheduled, I will be there.  Sunday afternoon was bad for me, but I was a at least able to run a few missions Sunday morning.

Since you have access to the server source, what would it take to write a small test client?  Something that could 'mimic' a real player by moving around the map, taking missions, etc.  Is this feasible?

Absolutely I will.  I've tried to give your current test server as much time as I can.  If you can set up a time to get a large number of people all on and in the same hex for a couple of missions, just let me know the time and I'll do my best to be there.

I thought of making a test client (it is feasible) but concluded it would be a lot more work than just getting some people to test, I guess maybe not...?

:ufo: :multi: :ufo: :multi: :ufo: :multi: :ufo: :multi:The stress test is scheduled every night at 9 PM AST.

Yes, 5:00 PM Pacific or 6:00 PM Mountain or 7:00PM Central or 8:00PM Eastern or 9:00PM Atlantic, any of these will do - every day until we get 25 players...

Mandatories are off in home space. (mandatory missions only in enemy space - except for those special stock missions that are mandatory no matter what). If we get this test done, then you can ask for non stock settings on the next test. The missionlist stays stock, I am not rebooting it now for that, If you don't want to fly the diplomatic delivery log off and back on, it is a test.

Bonk,

If this is a bust, don't give up.  Try to write an automated test client before throwing in the towel.  I will gladly assist in the coding/testing if you need it.

Certainly, only this test is a bust if less than 25 sign up.  A test client will add a lot of time to the project and perhaps result in a change in strategy. If we're going to go to the trouble to write a test client to test band-aid fixes on the serverkit, we might as well just move on to re-writing the serverkit (instead of "patching" it). Let me think about whether a test client is actually worth it, a clean start on the serverkit might prove faster overall but still a long process. I was hopeful for the "quick fix" on this test...
