Server concept if anyone wants to pick it up
« on: November 29, 2004, 10:16:04 am »
Just had a thought and figured I'd put it out there in case anyone found it interesting.

What about a Federation vs. Gorn server?

I think it should be set in early era perhaps extending into mid.  Slow drones and plasma G  :o

The background might be that the Cestus III incident was not resolved peacefully.

One thought I had regarding this might be the creation of a "slot" area, where only one mission was offered, the old training mission and the ship you got put into was always a tournament cruiser.  Or perhaps more simply to allow only tournament cruisers (or a similar equal matchup) to run missions in this area (although the ai draw might lead to inequality).  The reasoning being that the Metrons (from the TOS episode Arena) were interfering in normal combat in the area and forcing duels between equal opponents.

Some minor refits might be needed for later Gorn ships as they would be facing a drone race as an enemy as the server progressed, but if its limited to slow or slow/medium drones I think they would be very minor, ie. a phaser 3 here or there.  The Fed ships would likely be fine as the Gorn are similar to the Romulans a historic federation foe.

I would perhaps suggest the early release of the basic PFT with INTs only to counter mission times by drone ships.  They would be toast in P v P but would allow for some hex flipping.

Just thought I'd throw this out there in case someone wanted to do it.

Interesting idea, not sure it would work with just two non-traditonal enemies, makes me think of maybe a K,G vs R,F server for better balance with the same kind of idea (background becomes a stretch...)

Hmmmm.....

Say, that's intriguing enough I've got to think about it some.  Each side thought the other was invading.  The only thing that stopped the Gorn/Federation war was Metron interference.  What if the mysterious Metrons had acted just a little differently?  (Those two ships are annoying us.  Let's squash them both, and then enjoy a little more lemonaide.)

I'm not sure how to get the allies Bonk wants.  We could keep it pure one-on-one with the Total War mission pack.  I think the early era balance of power might work out well.  Or perhaps the Orion fleet (national, not pirate) as an ally for the Feds, like in the alternate Paravian universe from last Captain's Log.  (which would leave me making something up as an ally for the Gorn.  Reformed Paravians?  Reluctant Romulans?)

Or maybe a small Romulan presence as an ally for the Feds, as early Romulans might see taking sides in a Gorn/Fed war as a way to finally eliminate one enemy.  (Legends from old Trek magazine had the Roms much more wishful of being friendly with the Feds than SFB would ever having them being with the Gorn.)  Then you could have a small Orion presence (national, not pirate) helping the Gorn, as they see their chance to finally wrest dominance of the Federation away from those pesky humans.

We are the Metrons!  We find your violence unsettling, but if you are going to fight then we are going to make sure you fight fair.  Now follow the rules, or we will give one of your captains a wooden cannon with a lit vine.

Perhaps this is a place for the "Orion Enclave"? I've just tested a mini-mod using unarmed PFs with an explosion force of 50 as "ASMs"...  ;D

like so (might need to increase the explosion strength after initial tests):

EDIT: I moved the screenshots to spare the thread (see below):

Upped the explosion force to 100, they are difficult to employ but can be effective. (see image attached - any feedback?) I think I'll finish a set of specs for the race and see if I can scare up a set of models for them (or just use stock...), anybody done them for SFC before? Anyway, I'll stop spamming your thread with this idea (though it might fit nice) and start its own thread when I've finished it. I leave you with another "ASM at work" screenshot to digest...

EDIT: I moved the screenshots to spare the thread, and added more!:

they chain-react nice...  ;D

So far I've finished the FF, CA, NCA (3 variants) and made light and heavy ASMs (50 and 100 point).
