I think your idea is a good one if there was a fleet up option as there is in SFC3 then you could put together a group of players each in a fleet style ship and also if the server could hold that many ships and players, other wise I think what we have now is good but what I would like to see is the removal of PVP VCs I think it would add a bit more spark into the game.
I dont necessarily like fleeting...running hexes and drafting is a risk...a roll of the dice....it creates exitement and variety nessary...a hex is a huge space and in the fog of war you may become separated or even ambushed by superior forces....

large ships dont bother me at all....to me this simulates the blow to the war effort that loosing a capitol ship can have....until we have another working model of something better...I'd leave it...
There is allways a point of no return in a battle...the point where you lost but didnt know it yet...usually about few seconds before you actually realize it and say "Doh!"...a pilot
allways has an option of fleeing the hex and becoming routed...
We lost several ships at the close of the server....such is the risk of wargaming...you loose units....not players...and NO ONE should ever confuse the two IMHO....it's only a game....
As new abilities are given to server admins or basic improvements to the server kit come online....the control the admins have will negate the need for rules governing certain aspects of DV play...you wont need a rule if the game wont let you do it in the first place
...just as previous bug fixes have eliminated the need for certain rules in the past...
Escorts wont be cheese when the g'racks are fixed...and you wouldnt catch a carrier or important capitol ship without one in a war anyways....
I'd like to see the variety of units you see in any quality wargame...I want them in the game...and I want them to serve a purpose...
Squadron commander is a prime example a breaking the paradigm of convention and opening up an entire new facet in the game
if only someone would use it...
IMHO...as things continue to evolve we shouldnt get trapped into one way of looking at things....we have a wealth of interesting and challenging ships...I think we should be using them all...
