Okay. Before I dump a ton of work into a server, I figure I'd check how many would play under it's conditions.
Timeline: Probably won't be ready till after the new year. I'll announce it's readyness to use as an emergency "filler" server when I have my side done. I'll work it into the schedule then.
Server rules:
Mandatory Sign Up. Purpose of the sign-ups is to allocate teams. It'll be 1,6 and either 3 or 4 against 2,5 and the other team, trying to get as close to equal player numbers as possible.
6 races only. You read it right. Feds and Klinks are not playable options on this server. Storyline will tell why. I do intend on sneaking Fed and Klink ships into various shiplists though, details on this decision posted after the sign-ups.
SFB-Adapted "Loose" Order of Battle. Against my usual judgement, I'm considering allowing fleets. Thing is, there will be SFB-like restrictions (one DB ship per squad, 2 PPD-bearing ships - max of 5 PPDs (4 from DN and 1 from CA / CM), carriers require escorts, etc.) and limits (solo escorts can't initiate missions, they need to escort a ship) on single-vessel flying. BPs / CPs will be used to limit the extremely heavy iron (DNs), account for certain severely limited ship-builds (like the 3 F-BCFs or the 1 F-CAD), and cover for other non-existant (shock, anyone) SFB rules.
VCs. There are probably going to be VCs for everything. Holding hexes, PvP kills, Bounty kills (yep, I'm contemplating the return of the Bounty system in here), Total Missions run (If I get a hold of the reporting utilities), etc.
Casual Player vs. Nutter Syndrome. I've got an early concept of a "balancing mechanism" to help out the Casual Player hold their own against the nutters. It currently reads something like "75% of the limited ships will be in the possession of Casual players, where casual is defined by being under a certain lifetime PP amount, announced for a given timeframe." Because I'm giving VCs out for total mission count, nutters will probably help the team more by running hundreds of missions instead of poking around in the low PP counts in order to own a DN. This rule would, of course, require a closed server where accounts are managed prior to the actual server going live, closed server is only way to prevent a nutter from building a "newbie" account to own a DN with. (I don't want to deal with the arguments "honor" would bring, I'd never play the server)
Comments / Questions to help me refine this mess is welcome. I'll go into more details as time goes on...
