need help connecting to D2 MISSIONS for GW4
« on: November 12, 2004, 06:43:14 pm »
My D2 play has been goofy since I started (earlier this year).  Ultimately, I think it's Firewall driven issues.

For GW 1 and 2, I found that I had to do a fresh uninstall reinstall at the beginning, otherwise after accepting a mission, my game would freeze BEFORE I ever even got to the mission briefing - regardless if it was a Human v Human or v AI.

Then, if after the uninstall reinstall I would then play on GSA, i would have the same game freeze issue.  Unistall Reinstall.

I could tolerate that (about 15 mnutes wasted time prior to every D2 session)

Well, for GW3 I was left out in the cold as no matter what, I would experience game freezes.

Now, the only thing I THINK is different, is that GW3 was the first AFTER the server directory was changed.  Perhaps that's the issue, and then perhaps the port settings on my firewall are no longer correct?  I don't know - I am at a loss.

Anyway, I have a Linksys wireless router.  I have lost the original access IP to go in and change them, but I think someone told me they are universal for the type.  Worst case, i can probably get them if I have to.

Anyway, any help is appreciated.  I plan on being all freshly installed tonight, ready to go.

192.168.2.1

Try that to get to your router settings.

Try that to get to your router settings.

I believe it would actually be 192.168.1.1

However, you can verify by going to the "Start Menu" then "Run", type "cmd" to get a DOS window, at the prompt type "ipconfig" if running WINXP or "winipcfg" if running WIN98. This will list your network settings. What is your IP addy? Take the first 3 parts of it and change the last to a 1 for getting the addy to the router config. Thus if your IP addy is 192.168.2.100 type 192.168.1.1 in your browser, if it is 192.168.1.101, type 192.168.1.1 in your browser. The default password for the linksys is "admin" if you didn't change it, which you should. Just leave the "userid" field blank.

Most linksys firmwares will allow you to set the ip address of the router's LAN interface.

i have a linksys router as well if you need the ports i can post em. ie port forwarding. Its a pain but it gets easier, go with 192.168.1.1 then the password is usually "admin" or "user"
good luck!

Well, In the act of Reinstalling my game, I read an interesting note at the top of the 2552 readme stating that having XP or a Linksys router can cause drafting problems in mp.

I have BOTH.

I never noticed this before, so I followed the instructions for XP, now I just need to get in the damn router and make the change there.  Hopefully it'll work.

That worked Kroma - of course I have no idea what my user name or PW are.

this is a comedy of errors...

A Buddy of mine told me that if I hit the reset button, it will cause the router to reset, resetting my password, but also reseting my port settins.

Could somebody please post what they should be should I choose this course of action?

Thanks

Yeah, resetting was what I was about to suggest. The password should then be "admin", no userid.

Pretty much the default, here are the SFC ports I have forwarded.

Jinn was just having a similar problem with drafting or being drafted. He only had the TCP protocol forwarded for the above ports, after forwarding the UDP protocol for them as well it worked fine.

If you mean checking the 'Protocol UDP' boxes - I had that done already.

Could it be something in UPnP Forwarding?

And mine isn't soley a drafting issue - I can't even go to mission briefing  for AI missions.

You know how at first you have to countdown button's side by side, the counter for each starting at 35?  The left hand one goes instantly to 0 (which is typical when you aren't going against a person) but the right hand box stays at 35 - and then the game is locked (mouse still moves though) and I have to reboot to get out.
