An all new 100% DC Chandley..!!!! (plus an NX bash!!)

Greetings all... Since I haven't done anything constructive recently I thought I'd pop my modelling hat on and make something.  Now, there'll be little surprise at the subject matter but what's different here is that the entire model will be made by me.  I wont be using anyone else's bits... so to speak...

Anyway, I'm sort of half way there having constructed the primary hull and warp nacelles.  The more astute among you will notise that certain bits differ from "standard" Connie class components.  I figured there'd be little point me making something that many modellers have done before... :D :D  So, although some bits are the same the rest isnt, more like "the same but different" if you get me.  Please disregard the purple bits as they already exist as part of the Chandley I did earlier this year (the bit I made) and if this all goes well then I may look at some other ship classes.





So, there you go... Feedback, as always is appreciated...

Wow I really like your design take on this. Great job on the hull. Doesnt look like a bash at all, very cool.

Why wouldnt you use the purple part, are going to rebuild that? it looks awesome as it stands.

Well I tried to get the rear hull to match all aspects of the original FASA 3-view back when I made it in march and the result wasn't perfect.. So what I will be doing is remodelling the rear hull in a more "practical" vein.... IE: removing the slope off the back to avoid the "low ceiling" that will undoubtedly be there.  Once I have finished the rearhull it should match the FASA "top" and "front" views off of their drawing.  As I'm sure most of you are aware (plus I have mentioned it before) the FASA plans are a little inadequate with many lines and structures just not matching up so whilst my March 2004 version is the best compromise with regard the FASA plan, the new one will be more a case of "fresh thinking"....  ;D :D ;D :D ;D :D ;D

I know, I know.... I use a lot of "quotes"........ At least I don't do the finger gestures whilst I'm doing it.....  That really IS annoying....  ;D ;D

As far as poly counts go I'm aiming for less than there was in the March one that I did which means a count below 9763, at the moment though it's looking like more but as all the shapes are solid and closed (in case I need to boolean anything) that's to be expected.  When I start removing polys that you'll not be able to see, that count will come down, and if I can get it down to 7000 then I'll be REALLY happy....  :D :D :D :D

Thanks KF.... If all goes to plan, it should usher in a new batch of Chandley Works refits of various TMP era vessels: Loknar Refit, Larson Refit, Baker, Northampton and possibly Remora....  Anyway, that's all off in the future but great to get positive feedbacl...

A Booleaned model will definetley run fasterin game, but it's a bitch to kitbashers. Just out of curiousity, would you consider having two versions of the Chandley: one Optimized and one "kitbasher friendly?"

Also, about the Chandley herself, great job. The nacelles are a very interesting take on the original Enterprise nacelles, but are slightly more "modern" to suggest that the Chandley came later and warp dynamics improved a bit since then. Also, no offense, but I donna like the built in deflector much. I figured that a few more of the space-energy sensors scattered on the top surfaces of the hull would've made up for the "missing" deflector, but oh well...

MUST SEE NX-CHANDLEY WIPS NOW!!! I don't give a frell if it's at 70%, I want to see what Phase II magic you've been weaving. ;D

I may end up with 2 versions, a solid one (to aid kitbashers) and lower poly "usual" version for in-game use... Weird way of putting that but you get what I mean..... As for the nacelle changes, my whole thought on this goes something like this.... This model represents the Chandley "New Build" in the mid 2280s.  Linear warp drives have been around for a decade and a half and this was the Work's opportunity to build new vessels from the "ground up" ensuring future up-gradability and longer life well into the 24th century.  With the hope that the experimental transwarp drive will prove a success, the nacelles themselves have to accommodate transwarp drive coils.. Hence the new nacelles... Plus the much much higher speed of transwarp necessitates a dedicated navigational deflector array..... or something like that anyway....

Not a bad "on the hop" explanation really....

Funnily enough the "Excelsior" Chandley isn't that bad... Which is saying quite a bit since a fair few designs on there are godawful... Not to mention the fact that "boys" insist on calling them "Heavy Deep Penetration Tactical Mega-battleship" and then shoving six warp nacelles on it...  ::) ::) ::) ::)

If by labelling that as "lazy" marks me out as a purist then a purist I shall be......

Great stuff !!!!! I love this NX idea but ya gotta do a varient with TOS narcelles too.That way you can continue to see that natural progression of the ship. Besides it would be pretty cool LOL
