How about the whole name... USS VELOCIRAPTOR...there is a pre-TOS ship, with a cool patch...could be an ancestor?

Yeah Raptor is a cool name. That patch is awesome too. I'm just not keen on the insignia placement on the wings. It just doesn't look right to me.Keep up the outstanding work MarkyD !!!!!

finished the model... conveted it to .mod and when I did I got a couple of mesh glitches... shadowy overlaps and the like.... im gonna fix em then post pics when its done... i hate welding vertices.... booooooooooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrring $:-\$

Is it possible to add vertices to a 3d shape?

Yes you might want to try edit mesh>face>divide. where you click on the face will add a vertex.
