Great idea J'inn.

<sigh>

Do you EVER stop kissing his furry white a**??

Of course it's a great idea, but if people keep telling him that he'll come to expect it.

I say keep him all beat and downtrodden, that way he'll keep striving for bigger and better server ideas to please us.  ;D

It was, wasn't it?

I really ought to think of having many of my posts here preserved somehow for posterity
Perhaps a collection entitled "The Wit and Wisdom of Hexx". Perhaps some sort of package deal
where you buy the book and get a DVD featuring all my greatest PvP victories,
How may battles can you fit onto a DvD anyway?

You can fit a lot of battle films on a DVD.  But why waste the money.  You should use a storage medium that provides enough data space to meet your needs.  Might I suggest ....

Can it be three way, with the ISC enemy of everyone until the Evil Jinn decides who is losing at 2273 or when ever and changes the alliance settings to bring ISC in on the losing side?

Or just leave them enemies to all?

ARRRGGHHHH!!!!   Anyone know how to change alliances AFTER the server starts?   it's not a bad idea though.

What if you made it more complicated and broke it down by race?
ie ISC fights coaltion and Alliance until 2273
in 2273 look at size and power of Empires, take the wekest (say Hydrans and Roms) have them join the ISC and fight the three way.
Or have the Empires rearranged in 2273 (any reason we've chosen this date btw?) to present a "United Front"
ie Have the Klingons + allies, Feds+ allies vs ISC, 2273 hits have hte Klingons and Feds (obviously 2 biggest Empires) plus 2 of the lesser powers form one power block.
ISC would pick up remaining smaller powers, plus thse pilots who refuse to fly with Feds/Klingons/or me.

Have to think a little more before deciding whether or not I like the idea.

One thing is for sure, more than 6 weeks and I aint going there, pehaps more than 4.

Standard Alliances again though?  yawn, seems like the best servers have all been with different than standard alliances, but thats just my personal opinion.

Big map is a draw however, and a limit on specialty ships is too.  Econ being based on SFB history a big downer on the other hand.  Why not change it up and make the Feds and Klingons the minor powers for a change and allow the smaller races their due.  Imagine a Gorn Confederation or a Lyran Star Empire with the huge econs.  Realease your creative impulses past the Gene Roddenberry/SFB limits.   Just food for thought.

Would require server settings changes as well as a DB edit.   I know in the past that BBJones, Darkelf, Fluf, and possibly Tracey knew how to do it (Sorry if I forgot someone else that might).

PS.   Don't you remember CW5?  ;)   Every time a race was "Pacified", their alliance was switched to the side with the ISC/Klingons.

V. Order of Battle (empires)

Empires would be restricted as to whom they could attack and when.  This would track with the SFB history of the General War.   For example the ISC would not be able to go offensive until later in the server unless they are attacked first.

This also would restrict a Gorn, for example, from flying all the way over to Lyran space.

VI.  Player Numbers.

Every player could have four accounts.  One for each race on his team.   This would allow a lot of flexibility and prevent any one race from getting overrun too easily just because no one signed up for them.

I quite like V and VI, kinda like just running the GW series all on one server... would save a lot of work and provide continuity. I think you should consider running it longer than 8 weeks.

8 weeks might make sense from the grand scale of such a server, but I would think that for anyone that has a family or such other RL responsibilities, anything more than 4 weeks long is asking for too much if you want steady numbers and interest.

It's not that hard to do it directly.  It just requires a hexedit on the DB.  I did it for Four Powers War.  I'd just have to find my DB map again to tell you how to do it.

It's even easier if you use Evil Daves DB editor, though I learned during Squadron Commander that sometimes the editor works, and sometimes it doesn't.  (Sometimes it found a mismatch error in the number of objects in the DB, and thus wouldn't let me edit.  But the DB did keep running, and sometimes I could edit.  Which is how I changed the DV in a couple of hexs.)
