J'inn's Latest Wacky Server Idea
« on: October 26, 2004, 12:38:15 pm »
I?m thinking about a server.   A major one.

It would use much of what we have done for the General War Series.   Tell me what you think.

I.   Map

Huge.  As big as a server can handle without have a hemorrhage.
It would be the General War map.

II.  Races

All of of them with standard alliances.

III.  Run time.

4 - 8 weeks.  I?m flexible here.

IV.  Order of Battle (ships)

Same as for GW3 for BCHs and larger.  Based mainly on planets.

However, all speciality ships and conversions would be effected too.  Those would be based on the number of Star Bases available.

Thus all but vanilla ships would have some limitation.

V. Order of Battle (empires)

Empires would be restricted as to whom they could attack and when.  This would track with the SFB history of the General War.   For example the ISC would not be able to go offensive until later in the server unless they are attacked first.

This also would restrict a Gorn, for example, from flying all the way over to Lyran space.

VI.  Player Numbers.

Every player could have four accounts.  One for each race on his team.   This would allow a lot of flexibility and prevent any one race from getting overrun too easily just because no one signed up for them.

VII Rms

Just one for each side.   No need for 8 with this set up.

VIII.  Problems?

None really except for the map size.

IX.

Benefits.   Major server.  It could be done with no special ship lists, just OP+.  Fairly easy from the Admin side.   ALL RACES INVOLVED.  (Thus Karnak can stop mooing) <snicker>

Another cool idea, Jinn.

It would be really cool if the specific theatres of General War would be time triggered similar to the sequence of events in the GW series which I believe you are suggesting.

System Specs:

Dell Dimension E521
AMD64x2 5000+
2G DDR2 RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3
250GB SATA HD

*Karnak rides in front of the Frog hordes and bang PPDs with the frog front-line on the field of SFB*

"Ride now!! Ride now to Alpha Quadrant!!"

"A red day!!  A wroth day of ruin and slaughter!!"

"Ere the dyna-world's ending!!"

*points sword at the Alpha Quadrant and screams"

"Death!! Death!!"

*frog hordes screams back*

"Death!! Death!!"

*PPDs blasts out*

CHARGE!!  KILL!! MAIM!! DESTROY!!
Trash the Feds!! BBQ the Gorns!!  Stomp the Roms!!  Road-kill the Kzin!!

Well, umm...yes, old top. I do believe your suggestion does indeed have some merit and perhaps may even be worth considering.

CHARGE!!  KILL!! MAIM!! DESTROY!!
Squish the Hydrans!!  Body-slam the Klinks!!  Zap the Lyrans!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good one J'inn!!  Sounds like muder to manage though.  If someone could possibly cover the OOB/R through coding, or possibly making all races allied to the one that's not supposed to be in the war yet, and that race allied to everyone else, but change one slightly before the other so that by all appearances one side started that part of the war.

I don't know if my idea is clear, so lemme know if you can see it.
I was never here, you were never here, this conversation never took place, and you most certainly did not see me.

Until the time comes for the B-I-G F-R-O-G P-U-S-H, the ISC will need lotsa neutral hexes between them and the Gornos/Romeos to occupy themselves.  It will fit in with the standard pre-invasion ISC doctrine of taking uncontested territory but never letting it go when taken.

Cool.    However as for big, I don't want it so big that it is silly.   Just big enough so that all empires look like "empires" and not teeny tiny city states.

ISC is almost as large as the Federation.  If you were to rank the empires in terms of size/economic power/fleet size, per SFB lore, it would be:

1)  Federation
2)  ISC
3)  Klingon
There are the top 3 powers. Basically, the super-power class

4)  Romulan
5)  Lyrans
6)  Kzinti
These are the middle powers. If Lyrans were more organized they could almost challenge the Romulans and could certainly take care of the Kzin.  Romulans basically go all-out with modular fleet in an effort to catch up with the Klingons but fall far short.

7)  Hydrans
8 )  Gorns
These are the small powers.  They won't last long without a big sugar-daddy ally to back them up (ie. Fed ally with Gorns, Hydrans did not co-ordinate with the Kzin so they went down).

Oh, really?  Who's your mission pack daddy? :P Creative licence is good, very good. *snicker*

As I was saying. The ISC will start the B-I-G F-R-O-G P-U-S-H in 2273.  The Gorns will be forced to stand or die in PvP with ISC ships. No running away until PFTs come out. The Roms and Klingons will squish the Gorns.  Then we make the Fed howl and clean up whatever's left.

I'm sure that I'm forgetting something...Oh yeah, the moving asteroid will have homing beacons on everyone's DNs, CVAs and BCVs. :D

Oooh!! Mesa plenty bad bombad Froggie. :D

Seriously though, whatever works out to bring in the ISC at reasonable juncture in the war is good.  BTW, did I mention 2273? Early Middle Era?  :D :D :D :D

So, this dyna starts tonite, right?   ;D
