OT but I'm sure someone here must know...
« on: April 15, 2005, 12:52:56 am »
thumbs.db files are showing up when I rar up files, or un-rar/zip them, but theya re not showing up as visable files, nor is search finding them, and I have "show hidden files" enabled. how exactly do I get these things to show up so I can get rid of them all?

They are part of the windows management system. I just delete them once I make the zip or rar file.

Use the one saying "Hide protected operating system file [recommended]" one a few lines down that will do it for you.
People always said they wanted the government to listen to them and now the government is listening, taking notes and names...and coming to see you soon!

Remember the axiom of big government bureaucrats: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. When, finally, under the crushing weight of taxes and regulation, it stops moving, subsidize it.

Same thing as being under XP for this... once you have the view hidden files enabled, then do a "Details" view.  You should see it then.  Then delete the Thumbs.db file and it'll shrink the archive size.  The trick though is not to use thumbnail view unless you want Windows generating those Thumbs.db files..
..ooOOoo..totally useless information..ooOOoo..

Windows generates them when you have images in the folder that you can preview. They're basically just image caches, they speed up viewing once you have previewed the images before. More or less the same as Paint Shop Pro "pspbrwse.jbf" files.
