I finally got to see part two of this season opener. Part one was pretty good in my opinion. Part two wasn't so bad, but I think the problem is in us; we the current crop of TV, movie, play, etc. viewers are spoiled and jaded. Even if something is good we demand spectacular or extra-superb.
Sounds like a pursuit of excellence, except that it really isn't possible to produce slam-bang great episodes of a serial all the time. Personally, I'll settle for solid and/or pretty good.
The Xindi arc was solid and good. It was ended well except for the shock scene at the very end with the (unbeknownst to us, from the future) alien in a WWII German uniform.
This mini time travel arclet with the future alien started out being quite entertaining: German Nazis in Brooklyn, WWII battle maps with German divisions posted all over the Northeastern states, and, "... you must have got away after it (the carrier Enterprise) sank... ", Mafia resistance fighters... all very cool.
I think the only problem with part two was that we already accepted all those disjointed pieces of unhistory, and then just waited for the inevitable climax with the good guys winning, sort like how the German officer put it on the transport pickup.
But, man, that scene with the Enterprise zapping Stukas (?, Messerschmitts?) with phase cannons over Manhattan! Priceless!
