KCW test server!
« on: October 12, 2004, 10:10:21 pm »
While we wait to get started on the real server, I figured we might as well take this opportunity to work out any kinks in the map or files now. (And get a little practice and fun in too!) Just let me know if I'm stepping on any toes folks, but I figure this can't hurt and just might keep these reprobates from wreaking havok in mainstream society in the meantime... (myself included)  ;D

Installer here. Webmap here.

I'll do my best to keep tabs on the server but I work nine to five... (drb has access to reboot the server if he's around).

Thanks man.

A few things I've noticed so far (so I don't forget):
1) some news spam on four cartels (map edit needed).
2) some strings missing (near end of shipnames.txt file). - fixed, installer updated.

Hmmm seem to have found an issue, I get ISC (Kinshaya) AI in Imperial space (Mirak) so if I lose a mission there the DV goes down. This is with mandatories off and movement 3. I think I need to adjust the political tensions... edit: nope that didn't do it... I think I'll add a couple bases and pump up the economy of the Imperials to see if that helps. edit: yup, it seems adding two battle stations did the trick, getting Imperial AI now but now I realise I need to edit the Imperials (Mirak) in the shipmnames.txt too lol. I'll look at adjusting the placement of Imperial bases and the shipnames.txt file tonight... otherwise looks good for now...

Shipnames.txt file completed, installer updated. News spam (pirate economies) corrected and Imperial economy and base placement adjusted.

Thanks, Bonk!

It will be Monday before I can spend any time on the server, but if it is still up I will certainly spend time there then.

Got on as Koloth_Kinshaya, ISC interface...

In-mission briefings are still 100% ISC text... (stuff about pacification and resisting the might of the ISC navy... ;))

Only ran a pair of missions, but is the Plasma AI trained in the use of scatterpacks?  In both missions, my FF-sized escort did not deploy any scatterpacks that I saw...

The races settings coming into the mission from the dyna map is ISC, so you will always get the ISC mission briefing.

Shiplist error report

The XCB shows up in mission sometimes, this ship has no business in the list.

Have to say I really do like the new BATS assault mission and the new ambush action, very nice job Karnak.......

What's the deal with X-ships anyway?

If they're not intended for this mess, I had an XCB and XFF visiting my C7...

Dunno, they're in OP+3.4 to start with. I'll take all the X-ships off the list tonight.

I was just looking up the rules and found this:
Quote
12.Order of Battle: Each House is only permitted to fly six Heavy Battlecuisers and one Dreadnought (Flag ship for the House). All other ships below these hull classes have no restrictions. Restricted ships can be traded in or upgraded to other variants when available. Once destroyed, restricted ships cannot be replaced.

13.House Leaders are responsible for allocating restricted ships and can be transferred between players at the will of the House Leaders. Only House Leaders may authorize such transfers.

I would interpret that as meaning no ships larger than a CC should be available for sale.  Yesterday I saw a I-C9K and today a I-B10V in the shipyards.

Actually, the bigger ships still would need to be available in the shipyards at all times.

One of the things the rule, as written, allows me to do is to, on the fly and at my discretion, is reassign my BCHs and DN at will.  Theoretically I could log in at 8:00 PM, swipe the DN from her normal pilot, fly it for 2 hours or so, then give it back at the end of my night.  Or, I could have elaborite C7 "timesharing" schemes where I keep the C7s online as close to 24 hours per day as possible, and not rely on nutters to do that... :D

And it's a tradition on test servers that the restricted ships are cheap and free to fly.  Here's your chance to get your B11KVXZPQ super-battleship with self-escorting carrier features, minesweeper and commando deck... ;)

LOL, not quite there yet bud... but yes a real OoB may soon be possible, not this server however, we'll have to do it like we always have - Honour system for OoB.  If paid big time I could manually reproduce a real OoB... ;)

Ship prices are as specified on the website. (stock prices - all ships deadly cheap... but parts and drones are a bit pricey).

I have noticed the same, but I haven't touched the sounds part of this mod yet, perhaps a phaser sound is in error? I'll go over it.

edit: at fist glance there are a few errors in the sounds.txt file, some carried over from stock and some new ones though no obvious phaser sound errors. I'll fix the obvious errors and look for more...

I misunderstood.  Thanks for clarifying that.

Fly a battleship?  You must be mad.   I like  the K-F5 series and the K-D6/7 hulls.

Depending on the timing I may be a "nutter" but I will be in mainstream cruisers (or CCs) most likely.

A few errors in sounds.txt corrected, installer updated. Keep digging guys, this stuff is great. More co-op mission testing would be good too. Maybe we can try stressing it tonight at ~8-10PM EDT?

No errors found yet.  However, I do recommend a good look at the new Karnak missions.  The Convoy Raid is a 1v4 (plus freighters) and the Ambush Action is a 1v4.

Too much time killing the AI ... very dull.

Stock missions ... the best way to go.

Hoi Folks,

Strafer, BoyLinux, and I ran two Planet Assult missions as co-op. Each time the "middle" draftee recieved a defeat and zero pp, while the other two were awarded the correct results.

Otherwise we are experiencing solid missions.

Take care

I've added missions to the server and installer. Possibly I'll add some stock ones too as Green suggested, and add/remove others based on feedback over the next few days. Since there are no mandatories you can pick and choose missions. (ShowMissions is on for now...) I also upped the max mission choices from 2 to 5 since there are no mandatories this server anyway. Its a little more resource intensive but on the other hand it will cut down on extra movement to get desired missions. It also helps to make the mix of missions play nice.

TraceyG, a house leader is busy at school at the moment, and Hooch, the server creator is unfortunately occupied with an illness in the family. I took it upon myself to work out the details in the meantime. Once the missions are finalised this week and Tracey's back next week, we should be good to go. (also, the test has only seen 6 players max, more would be good...). Hope that explains things!

P.S. so logon and get testing to give mission feedback!

"Unknown"  Error?

This is why I hate computers.    It bloody well knows it's an error so how can it be unknown????   If it's something it doesn't know why does it have to ASSUME that it's an error.  Why can't it assume that this "unknown" thing is not an error and just DO WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO FRIGGIN DO!!!!!!   ARRRRGhhhhhhhhhhh   <starts twitching>

The only reason it sez "unknown" is so that you have no clue what to fix.  It knows the error it just doesn't want to tell you.   It's all a conspiracy I tell you.    I HATE COMPUTERS     HATE HATE HATE
