At this rate it sounds like it'll be at least double - old one was around 3000 IIRC, and the saucer on this one will take 2/3rds of that. Nice idea making the mesh according to the grid lines of the ship and all that P81.

pneumonic81,

Have a question.

If I remember right did not the lower hull and engines use to require more polys than the saucer. Maybe maybe not but I remeber these things use to be the poly heavy part. Maybe it was because you came up with a way to lower saucer polys, but I thought this is where most of the the details were on the model.

I can't be sure but judging by the wireframe pics it looks like P81 has welded(don't know the techy term) the mesh so that there's only mesh where it'll be visible, which is not kitbasher friendly, but I can't be sure from those pics.

btw i wanted to mention seemless modeling is a GOOD idea for u modelers out there and i suggest u learn it. it has many beneifits cause remeber that game engine renderers are very poor compared to model program renderers like max. what might look good in max will look horrible in game. seem less models help discourage Z-fighting, help with making clean smoothing groups, and it defines merging shapes much better.

for u kitbashers, parts form seamless modeles can always be made. and with a little modeling skill u can take parts and make them into a seamless mdoel too by leanrign how the bring objects together and remaping UV coordinates.

good luck all.
