Constitution WIP
« on: October 09, 2004, 01:48:12 pm »

so some of you might be wondering whats gonna be different about this one P81?

well, ill tell you. here is my plan. this time out i want to define more of the ship with mesh structure that the texture can more easily and effectivly support. in the  above images u can see this already by the way i actually modeled the defector shield lines as the shape of the hull, along with the RCS thrusters and the port and starboard docking bays. there will be a poly lowering phase for LODs btw which will rely more heavily on the texture.

Wow, looks like its going to be a great model. Good idea modelling the gridlines and details like that. How many polys you planning it to be?

I agree with the above posters: The Master has indeed returned. And your new Constitution Class looks great in my opinion. Your fed ships (though not always problem free) have long been very good looking ships. I'm glad to see a replacement for the Constitution Class. And this one looks a lot better then the old version. I hope you intend to re-create more ships after this using the same skill you now have. I know for one, the Galaxy and Ambassador could use a facelift :)

Keep up the good work. I wish I was half as good as you, then at least my models would be decent :P

Right now I would settle for the programs and a good working knowledge of utilizing the tools appropriately.  The rest comes with time, experience ...  and of course the talent to see the WIP in your mind as you do one of these !!

Thanks P-81 for sharing your work ..  and talent

LOL,

was thinking the same thing time to install and start back up again. I can warn you now though that OP doesn't run on XP unless someone comes by and tells us where to find the download site that has the corrected files that Interplay released.

your thinking of the wrong game bud, SFC1 doesn't run on xp unless you download the new patch that pestalence(sp) did up.  the patch includes the nocd fix so that you can play sfc1 on xp.  on the other hand sfc op runs quite well on my xp machine

Well I don't want to make you bored while saying that she looks awesome but it's true. She's awesome  :) She'll be propably the first model made for the community with such detailed mesh. On the other hand it'll be great cause maps will only dress her up :D  :o LOL

BTW Rick Op runs fine under XP. This guy misread SFC1 with SFC:OP. At least it is currently running on my mashine under Win XP :D

At this rate it sounds like it'll be at least double - old one was around 3000 IIRC, and the saucer on this one will take 2/3rds of that. Nice idea making the mesh according to the grid lines of the ship and all that P81.

pneumonic81,

Have a question.

If I remember right did not the lower hull and engines use to require more polys than the saucer. Maybe maybe not but I remeber these things use to be the poly heavy part. Maybe it was because you came up with a way to lower saucer polys, but I thought this is where most of the the details were on the model.

I can't be sure but judging by the wireframe pics it looks like P81 has welded(don't know the techy term) the mesh so that there's only mesh where it'll be visible, which is not kitbasher friendly, but I can't be sure from those pics.

btw i wanted to mention seemless modeling is a GOOD idea for u modelers out there and i suggest u learn it. it has many beneifits cause remeber that game engine renderers are very poor compared to model program renderers like max. what might look good in max will look horrible in game. seem less models help discourage Z-fighting, help with making clean smoothing groups, and it defines merging shapes much better.

for u kitbashers, parts form seamless modeles can always be made. and with a little modeling skill u can take parts and make them into a seamless mdoel too by leanrign how the bring objects together and remaping UV coordinates.

good luck all.
