Of course the Red Sox won.  When you're playing these guys the grown ups had better win.

Doesn't look good for the Twins.  Looks like the Sox will be going to the Bronx and this time Grady Little won't be there to bail out the Yanks.  :woot:

They're not grown ups, they're idiots;D
Quote
Last year's Red Sox used the theme "Cowboy Up" in the regular season, before they went belly up in the playoffs against the Yankees. This week, Damon declared they were down on "Cowboy Up" and instead were just "idiots" with bad hair and slovenly uniforms who were out for fun on the field.

"We're all idiots here," Ortiz said. "We all have fun. We all hug, kiss, grab, whatever."

I'm not much of a baseball fan, but a few years agothey were talking about reducing the size of the leagues, and the yankees stepped right up and said MN didn't need a baseball team, so the twins should go.  I say the yankees can wank off and they'll never get my support.  I hope the twins beat them, and if they don't I will be there rooting for the sox.  If the twins pull it off I guess I'd rather see the twins win, but am not going to be upset at all if they don't against the red sox.  Just so long as the yankees win.  I'm already pleased with the twins season.

Bring on the Yankees! If the Sox keep playing like they played the last 2 games and the first 6 of the 3rd game, we'll eat NY alive!

MJ, while I agree on Bush...I gotta go with the Yankees...I'm from western NY, gotta root for the team..It'll be fun, but sometimes you gotta go with history over emotions...Red Sox won the pennant when?   :D :D

Just hoping the Yankee pitching will straighten out, and the big hits keep coming

People forget that Billy Buckner was in no shape to be athletic on the field.  That's why he was at first base to begin with...

I'm more ticked off at a long list of people, Bob Stanley (he never should have given up so many hits), the manager who left Billy on the field, the 86 Mets in general, etc. to be truly upset at Bill Buckner...

Let's see if Francona leaves Schilling in a game for too long and he gets nailed / fired like Little did.  I think he'll be quick to pull Pedro after 115 pitches after his last few outings...

(PS, I still think Wakefield would make a beautiful #2 starter between Power-pitching Schilling and Martinez... :D)

Wakefield kicked Yankee butt last year.  If it hadn't been for Little he probably wouldn't have had to throw that damn pitch to Boone.  :'(

Sometimes it amazes me how we can go from Boston/Yankees to Dune/Facedancers to Star Trek....but then it shouldn't, we are all part of probably the most eclectic (and acerbic) group of people around...

IIRC Face Dancers were genetically engineered to be shape shifters.  Ordinary Tleilaxu weren't.

Hey Mentat.

You've got one wish.  You're guaranteed to get anything you ask for.

Do you wish for the Red Sox to win?

Do you wish for Bush to win?

Wha'ts it gonna be?  :D

Sox do it again, first MLB team to force a game 7 after being down 3-0...

2 team's entire seasons come down to 9 innings of baseball...

Last Sunday morning the Sox were one game away from the one of the biggest chokes in baseball history, now it's the Yankees who are one game away from choking.  But this is no time to gloat, I've been here before.  The Sox have a unique ability to tear your heart apart only to suck you back in, and then let you down.  Wednesday night  is game 7, and I've been here before.

Regardless of what happens then, I'll always remember game 6 for the performance Curt Schilling gave.  For him to even play showed guts.  To go seven full innings and pitch so effectively was incredible.  The man has heart.

An email I received Tuesday morning:

All Boston sports teams are like women:

The Patriots are like the hot girl from the gym that you're hooking up with;
she's awesome, but almost too good to be true, so you worry.

The Bruins are like the girl that you just casually dated in College and you
don't really care about; she's just something to do when you're drunk and
lonely.

The Celtics are like your girlfriend since high school that was great at one
time but has lost its spark. And you always kinda look back and think about
how great it was.

And the Sox are like the teases you meet at a bar; they come up to you, talk
to you all night and ask you to go home with them; then you're hooking up in
her bed and she says it just doesn't feel right, she made a mistake, and she wants
you to go home.

I hope this time she asks me to stay.

GO SOX!!

Or perhaps the Red Sox have just sucked for 86 years...... ;D

Anyhow I must say they have heart, took guts to force a game 7, well done.  Of course the only thing better than a sweep would be another 7th game disappointment.

If it wasn't the Yankees they were playing I'd be pulling for the Sox in the ALCS as I usually do, hoping for them to lose in the series of course...... ;D

Winning the ALCS wouldn't break the curse for the Sox however as a World Series win is required, nonetheless, should they defeat the Yankees it will be a glorious day for Sox fans everywhere and a sad one for the Yankee fans who will be sending hot coco to Lucifer as his domain will have likely frozen over.

With that said lets look at a chart which sums it up nicely

P.S.  You guys really are due one though and best of luck to some of the best fans in all sports

And if things don't go the Sox way, you still got the PATS one New England team I do like...... ;D

Flash update on Game 7...

Brown loads bases with the bottom of the Sox order.  Vasquez comes on to pitch...

Damon hits second ball of night, Sox order Salami... ;)

6-0 Beantown, Top 2... :D

Edit: Damon hits his second long-ball of the Night, 8-1 Sox on their favorite offensive play, the Home Run...

When an ball is caught, don't the runner's have to go back to their base? Or does that not apply to the home plate?

I came here to ask a question.

If your base is home plate and it is caught, you were obviously the batter and thus out.

Without the Sox's ability to beat him, the Yankees would probably be in the world series after 4.  Not "swept" after being spotted 3 games... :D

Well, let's see if the Sox can take advantage of the cold like the Pats regularly do.  They should, it might be like putting ice on hurt bones all game... :P  Gotta love the AL All-Stars, they got Boston Home Field for this series...

Yes, the runner would have to go back to the base and tag it after the ball was caught before he can advance to the next base, home plate included.

Ah, I didn't realize there was a provision where the runner could advance if the ball was caught. Odd that I've never known about this before.

its true of foul balls too. Say somone pops a ball foul by first base. A runner on third can (hypothetically) advance home and score a run. Tough to do? Yeah, but its possible. However one can only advance if the foul is CAUGHT.

Having "followed" the Yanks for years (gotta know what the evil ones are doing...), I've learned one thing about Steinbrenner...

It's not how many rings you have.  It's if you have this year's ring.  Nothing else matters to him...  (and if you beat Boston, but that comes with getting the WS ring...)

So, with him coming up short on the '04 ring, and the fact that they lost to the Sox annoys the boss on every count possible.  He's probably looking for a new closer, ie, one that can beat Boston now.  It doesn't help Riviera's cause that he's blown 2x as many saves to the Sox then he's blown saves against the rest of the entire league... :D

Rivera is safe as can be as his numbers are by far the best in the game among all pitchers not only closers.  The Yankees problem all year has been a lack of starting pictures and left handed relievers.  I expect this to be addressed in the off season.

Sox now have 8 wins in a row, including a championship...

Patriots have 21 wins in a row, including a championship.  Pats are still counting... :D

So, the Sox need at least 13 wins to start next year.  And I've read they get to start with the Yankees...

Sox now have 8 wins in a row, including a championship...

Patriots have 21 wins in a row, including a championship.  Pats are still counting... :D

So, the Sox need at least 13 wins to start next year.  And I've read they get to start with the Yankees...

When was the last time a given city had both the reining MLB and NFL champions??? ;)
