EVIL ALIEN NAZIS!

Sorry, but the season premiere of Enterprise is about to begin.  I just had to shout that to get it off my chest.

Let's see if the new writer/producer can straighten this mess out.

The show, from what I saw last year or so to present wasnt fun to watch and I stopped watching after a while. I'd seen enough. They are all depressed, strung out, unhappy. there isnt much comic relief either. Its like watching a depressing soap opera. I think it stinks.

I mean, the human story of struggle in the neophyte stage of warp travel should be uplifting rather than depressing. I could be portrayed a myriad number of ways better than they are doing it. Yes, its weak. The storyline sucks. Its messes with the canon of trekdom... Damn... its just an aberration of pre-trek, an abhorrent waste of time and effort that could have been spent on something much better.

They had the perfect opportunity to go 'retro' with a modern day version of the TOS look. Bring back the cheesy outfits and the cheesy sets. Woulda been a hoot. But no, they had to take the dark DS9 approach and make it even deeper and darker.

I say 1 out of 5 stars.

Finally a decent episode! Although I do smell an uber temporal reset button comin' up next week...

I consider the nitty-gritty approach in Trek to be a welcome diversion, if well executed (which it hasn't been for alot of the time during Enterprise), from all the syrupy, altruistic tendencies that abound throughout Trek. I like that NITTY-GRITTY WAR STUFF DARNIT!!! Also I'm interested in WWII history so that's another reason why I was really into tonight's episode ;D

OK, I have heard it all its not canon, the ships are wrong, it doesn't fallow this it doesn't fallow that, look stop comparing it with the other ST shows ok. if you do that you will find that its not a bad show a bit rough but it takes time for the cast to come together, also from the get go they told us that it wouldn't be like the other ST shows that have been put out and that there were going to be a lot of changes, now I am a big trek fan but I never compared any of the shows to each other I let them stand or fall on there own merit and if you do that I think you will find that Enterprise is a good show granted the writers have over done the time travel line a bit much but as with everything new there are mistakes done give them a chance to fix it, my self I like the cast and the show its self I think given a chance it will be as good as the others.

then Deadman, they shoulda called it something besides trek... Like startravel or something. And used a different name than enterprise.

But even if you let it stand alone, that hurts it even more. The trek backdrop is the shows best prop.

Mind you they do have a challenge in the followup episodes but, up to now, the Xindi/Sphere Builders attack storyline was pretty good. Since up to now, the premise has been temporal, the storyline will probably correct all the "non canon" stories that we have seen so far. Time will revert to pre-TOS events. After which, several threads in Trekdom will be visited. Future episodes will focus on the road towards the foundation of the Federation (hopefully). It's pure Trek. Admittedly different ... But isn't that what Trek's been all about?

I just hope the series can survive the predictable reactions of fickle viewership and the station ratings game. I think it's a great series!   ;D

P.S. And I'll watch anything remotely related to Star Trek ... hehe ... and enjoy it!   :P

Are you saying they are going to pull the Dallas trick?

"Sorry guys but all of last year was just a temporal anomaly?"

"In real life, real men in Starfleet wear pants, shirts, and miniskirts?"

"I voted for the Enterprise timeline before I voted against it?"

Cant say Trek is too boring.   :D

I recorded it over the weekedn and watched it just now.   Wasn't bad at all, hopefully things we get less retarted after the Temporal Cold war angle is completely wrapped up.

That's my hope.  The episode was good, given the starting point that Coto had to start from.  (The scenes from last season's finale)

The weird part is, people have been trying to say that Enterprise doesn't make sense vis a vis TOS because the timeline has been alterred by the time war.  This is a theory I've dismissed, as I chalk it up -- accurately I think  -- to the fact that Brannon and Braga dismiss TOS, take pride in doing their own thing, and also don't know their backside from a whole in the wall.

However, look what we have now.  The new writer/producer promises to "finish" the time war story in the first two episodes.  He drops hints that this might restore the timeline.   And when the time war is concluded in episode 2, he then promises to do real TOS prequel episodes and to convert the Vulcans back into something we might recognize.  Why?  Because he loves TOS.

The people I've dismissed may be proven correct after all.

They dismissed more than TOS in Enterprise and blame Berman for that. Mr. high almighty reserves the right to change all that has been established to allow for "writing opportunities" ( I saw him say that in an interview on tv a few years ago) Get better writers dude who can work with what's been established!
Back to more than TOS dismissed. Care to comment on the movie exterior of the D-7? Better yet, didn't you see the episode with Ferengi. Picard's encounter was supposed to be the first.  I can't support my view much more because I stopped watching. Hopefully Manny Coto will make it worth watching again.

Am I the only person who finds the whole idea of Star Trek "Continuity" to be practically an oxymoron?

TOS didn't really concern itself with it, and had huge logic holes
TNG Contradicted itself numerous times
DS9 Same thing
STV -didn't really watch enough of it, but I'm guessing it did as well.

-So why are people concerned or upset that "Enterprise" has continuity errors and logic gaps?
Every series before has had the same thing.

Just watch the show on it's own and decide if you like it or not, personally most of the "Enterprise" stories haen't appealed to me, but some have
benn pretty good.

Logic holes? It's fiction. TOS was the first show and was bound to have "continuity" problems. Especially the 1st half of the first season. TNG was pretty solid in not destroying the foundation that had been created before it. DS9 seemd ok, but voyager really pulled it off the tracks and to address other thoughts on temporal/time travel, take a look at voyager and about 20% of that show never happenned due to such events.
People are concerned as trek is a passion for them. If we weren't passionate about trek, this would be a pretty empty forum.

Thats all irrelevant. The issue is, is the show any good? No. It isnt. And it isnt because of all that techno and story discontinuity. Before there ever was continuity, there was TOS and it weas good. Discounting the Trek storyline and background of trek from the Ent show, although it having holes and contradicting itself, would simply make ENT even suck worse.

S'Cipio

My feeling was that nothing much happened as far as advancing the plot.

OPENING SCENE:  Crewmember on old earth, with alien nazi's.  Time war in progress.
CLOSE:  Crewmembers on old earth, with alien nazi's.  Time war still in progress.  New mission is to destroy the time tunnel.
SETUP FOR NEXT TIME:  Destroy time tunnel.  Get back crewmembers.

But your comment makes me wonder if the reason I feel that way is that they spent 60 minutes trying to CLEAN UP the plot.

Ehh some of them have been alright
-TNG Were all it's shows good? Not for the first 2 seasons or so. Was any Show with that Crusher kid good?
-Enterprise may be bad, but they haven't done anything like that episode where everyone wore tissue paper and Wesley was going to die.
<and didn't>
DS( was probably my favourite overall series, but it's shows were also kinda weak (imho) until they realized they were getting their asses kicked by B5 and brought the Dominion thing in. (course it still wasn't as good as B5 but...)

I'd easily say the first two seasons on Enterprise had it's stories on par with the first two seasons on TNG
