Vorcha, many people play on dial-up.  There are things you can do to optomize a dial-up connection, and just be cool about what other bandwidth-hogging things you have running.  A chat client and the game should be OK.  nothing else.

Very true Vorcha. Make sure you've got the latest version of Direct X, make sure all your background programs like IM are off, etc. With some having voice comms running also doesn't work well, with others it has no real effect. And there's always Race text chat... ;)
