TMP Fed Fast Cruiser Furyofaseraph version
« on: October 05, 2004, 06:01:26 pm »
Fury, you still working on this one? I like it better than FS's cuz it matches better with TOS version of it. And the textures are cleaner. Anyway, let me know whats up. ;)

I probably would not mind as well as I am sure Fury of a Seraph can do a better job than I. It would give me a choice, you know?

So what is the status on this ship anyways?

I swear I didnt touch his karma! Still, I dont think it polite to drop in on threads thats asking for someone to please build a model and say that you dont like it and prefer something else. Keep it to yourself! People have done that before and the model never gets made. That pisses me off. Hold your tongue till after the model is released!

And sure he can have his opinion, Fury, everyone should, but people need to STFU when it comes to posting negatives on these type threads. Thats just a given. ;)

And Fury, did I read you somewhere say you fixed the saucer angles or lines on the perimeter of the saucer edge or something? What was the problem there?

Yes but the thing is, it really doesn't have to be said opinion or not. No has to be negative on a design, and only leave a general negative. Now being critical of a model or texture and saying why they don't thing it looks right, or this could be done to improve it is something different. That is voicing an opinion, because at that point they actually have one. Just saying I don't like it this one is better is just being negative, no opinion was really given.

And Fury, did I read you somewhere say you fixed the saucer angles or lines on the perimeter of the saucer edge or something? What was the problem there?

The only way I could see a problem there would be if he only moved the polies. He would have to move them exactly the same on both sides, and them probably reapply the textures in a editor to straighten the looks. Lots of times if things are not going to look right, will stretch and look funny, when you move things around.

it looks like a ConstitutionalVoyager.

Hehe, I noticed that too. That's partly why I like the design of Fury's F-CF :) Does the apparent similiarity between the Intrepid and the fast connie mean that the Intrepid class is a fast cruiser type ship too? Hmmmmmmm... ;) ;D

Only if the Sovereign, Prometheus, Steamrunner, Sabre (and the Elkins and Yaeger variants) aare also fast cruisers, by post-TNG most ships have oval or triangular or in some way pointy saucers, the techy excuse is something to do with the shape of the warp field and subspace, the real reason obviously is it looks 'cooler'.
 ::)

P.S. Dizzy, grow up, people are entitled to their opinion and Age was well within his posting rights to say that he didn't like this ship because it reminded him too much of a Constitution-Voyager cross; I happen to agree, it does look like a very bad cross between an Intrepid and a Connie-R but the opinion of 2 people in a thread of dozens of posters who like the ship should not stop a modeler from finishing their work. Several of my works have been described as 'fugly' but do I care? No, they'll download it or they wont, words wont stop me from making things how I want them to be and the same should the case with others, if people like your stuff it's a bonus but first and foremost people should be making the ships for their own enjoyement not to satisfy the crowd.

Now I know I'm gonna get negative karma for that one. :D

Not from Me.

Like I said it is not so much that someone doesn't like it but explain why. As for the ship isn't FASA more or less responsible for the look anyways, long before Voyger and the TNG movies came out.

this thread will NOT turn into a flame war, by god.

So Age doesnt like it. He is welcome to that opinion, and he wasnt rough about it, he was just straight forward. In fact he said its nice, he just prefers the original, so its not like he was speaking down about it.

Now i could undesrtand if he said something along that lines of "I hate this, it sucks more ass then a 2 cent whore", then i would pounce on him, especially if he gave no reason. But he was just stating his opinion, harmless as it was.

ROFL @ Dizzy, and also @ FOASs' 2-cent whore gag.

Fury, I can see (roughly) how you get the standard hull into that shape but do you know how to straighten out the textures? Because whenever I've tried I can't get them re-mapped properly, it always looks all crooked and I can't redraw all the lines on the saucer.

When you reapply them move the points after you get the general shape. First you cover the texture area with the full map. then you adjust the points (tips of the triangles) one at a time or in groups to strench or contract the areas. It will be slow work but it can be done, the only other option would be to morph a blank texture or half circle and then mirror it to cover both sides. then apply the new texture.

Not intending to hijack this thread.

Alec,
I'd like to see you retexture Desty's, actually. It's not that Desty's textures aren't good, they're just purposely very "retro SFB" looking. Something a bit more up to date would be nice to see.

I think the idea is to have the chevron point in the same direction as the ship ;) Otherwise nobody would know where the bow of the ship was ;D

Actually don't care that much about accurracy. I can make them accurate but chose to do things my own way, which is why I usually use a blue instead of standard colours. Nope the symbol on the side was done for one reason only, it makes it easier to see when other ppl are using my work. Usually just checking to see if the credits are right other than that never really cared if some one else uses them.

Credits are important as at time I include other ppls work in them and they also need the proper credit as well.
