fyi - Gen at war 2.0 close to release
« on: September 28, 2004, 11:41:27 pm »
After eons of waiting, yes, we will be releasing gen at war 2.0 very soon. you guys should check out the models in it, especially the elasi CA (from star trek: judgment rites).

for certain models like the elasi, i believe i am going to be more restrictive of other modders putting it in. atheorhaven has put countless hours into mod and I would hate to see someone else rip it off.

that said, I am going to defere to what ever he wants to do with said models. If he wants to release them, then do it.

Dont get me wrong, I simply want to avoid someone stripping out the models without his permission and plopping them into their own mod - without asking first.

other than that, it should be noted that i will be releasing a server kit which others can run their own gen at war campaigns on.

I can't wait Nanner!

Will this release see the possibility for single-player conquest campaigns for all four races, perhaps with the Karnak missions involved?

Hey guys.. just checking in from Nashville TN at the moment.. :)

Here's the way that I wanted to do things with the ships I helped add into G@W, including the Elasi CA.  My main thing was (of course) trying to make sure that Nannerslug and G@W had exclusivity on a model for a period of time.  And at the moment, there's some credit files that I still need to write up and submit to Nannerslug.  The 2.0 release should be okay without them.. but when I get home, I'm going to finish up writing up the credit files and send them to Nanner.  If he could then do a small update that includes just the credit files.. then all the right credits should be with the right ships, and ships could start moving to other platforms.  Anything that I did that's still on my HD has the hi-res textures, so when I start the back-conversions to SFC 2 and SFC 1, I'll approach the release in two forks.  The SFC 1 releases will probably use the existing textures simply because it'll be easier on the PCs limited to only being able to run SFC 1.  However, I'll also release the full sized texture versions for the SFC 2 release of each ship, and those textures is what'll likely make a ship port over to another game or mod.  Once they're at that point, I'll just ask my usual.. anything I worked on, check with the original modellers and texturers for permission (or the permissions thread for their already given permission), and send me an ingame screenie of the ship you want to use and details on how you want to use it.  This way, I get to see the ship in whatever platform and have more pretties for my wallpaper collection.  :D  Then convert it, or add it to your mod.

But for the moment, I'd like the Elasi and the other new ships not to be ported elsewhere simply because I want Nanner to have exclusivity for a period of time after the release of G@W 2.0... and after a month or so, I'll start releasing a flood of SFC 1 and SFC 2 versions of the ships for general downloads, playing, inclusions in mods, or porting.  Sound fair?  :)
