I have a pc problem as well
« on: October 02, 2004, 04:33:18 pm »
I'm highly against SPAM and Adware and Spyware, and I use yahoo antispy, and in Austin last week I bought this ki8ckbutt program called "Spycatcher." Found a LOT of hidden crap that was slowing down this pc and I did not even know it!

Now for my problem, when I boot the machine, it gives me this message "Error loading C Program files\Wild Tangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0400dll
Spec module could not be found

What is that and what can I do to get it off this machine everytime I boot up? It's driving me nuts!

Also, how can I set the pc to highest security level and still access dyna and Scottrade and stuff? It seems if I set cookie block too high I can't do sheet.

Appreciate any advice.

Jack

Wild Tangent I know is used with Cox Cable Network to stream Video, But I also Believe It's used as a carrier for other Less Respectfull sites, IE. Gambling, Porn, Dial Up to Some wierd 34rth world Country that like to steal your Information.

As for setting the PC to Highsecurity, Let me give you a Breakdown of what I use, Of course Spyware, TeaTime, And Adaware, but also Zone Alarms Pro, And HiJack this.

I've not had any Problems at all, Also Jack, I strongly suggest you use FireFox as your Browser, alot of us have switched to It in order to Get away from IE, and the Security Problems It has.

I found a program called PC Mighty Max, which found a lot of problems, 72 to be exact, but damn they want over 119 dollars for one year service! I like buying things and having a CD disc and lifetime service like I got with Spycatcher.

As to switching to that other browser Stephen, how do I do that?

As usual, THANKS for the HELP!

My security systems are Sygate and Spycatcher, and yes, the machine has run better, but not warp speed.  :(

Hey man, that's what It's all about, we take care of our own here. For FireFox, simply go here   http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/   and download the Free Browser.

I also find It loads alot faster, and uses the Standard Netscape Flash Downloads for all the Flash/Shockwave needs.

I'll have to check in on SpyCatcher, I don't believe I've heard of that one.

If I go there, will it automatically configure and override the internet options for my homepage so all I have to do is sit back, smoke a ciggie, and drink iced tea while it does it's thingy?

I like it already, but I miss my yahoo tololbars, will it let me download it back? Also, this Thunderbird anti-spam, is it for my Yahoo and MSN mail or strictly for Mozilla mail accounts?

Spycatcher caught a lot of adware and tracking cookies from evil MSN.

Here is the breakdown on the program I bought

Tenebril Spycatcher                                  Webroot Spysweep                  McAfee AntiSpyware
version 3.0                                              2.6                                         1.0
blocks aggressive spyware from reinstalling   no                                           no
prevents browser hp being hijacked            yes                                          no
protects searches from hijacking                 no                                           no
auto updates                                           yes                                          yes
web based spyware database                     yes                                          no
largest spyware database available               no                                           no
constant memory scan                              yes                                          yes
choose drives and folders to scan               yes                                           no
Dept. of Defense file deletion tech             no                                            no

Pretty darn good program if you ask me, and lifetime updates and stuff, no hassles. One of the best programs I spent money on.

Of course I have immense respect for Norton, but this is a Dell P3 and I'm NOT going to invest TOO MUCH into it. I use it for comms, stocks, news, and browsing. Plus I'm stuck with Mexican DSL, which is MUCH better than Mexican cable, but NOTHING like a P4 with Roadrunner cable, hehehehehe.

Very satisfied Steve, thanks man! I'd recommend this browser to EVERYONE!

Do shortcuts to programs use up much memory?

They used to, however not so much anymore, The Big Memory hogs outside of the OS, is what ever else is running in the Background.

A Simple MSConfig from the start Run can show you what all's Running.
