Custom Weapons Textures
« on: September 17, 2004, 12:20:13 pm »
As a total ignoramus in these matters, I was pondering the creation of my own homemade photon torpedos.

Is this something a newbie should even be considering or is this a project requiring expensive modeling programs, extensive skills, etc.?

you can change the colors by simply using a basic photo editing program.....  what are you trying to accomplish?

Like you read my mind.  :)

Yeah, I'd like to try just changing colors at first. But I'd also like to create new "looks" for topedoes as well at a later date. For example, at Atheorhaven's site, he has a textures page with various torpedoes, some recolors, some are "TOS" style, some are "V'Ger" style, etc.. I'd like to do something along those lines.

If you have a better editor than paint like something that came with a scanner then use it, if not paint will work.

changing colours is easy and can be done quickly. Making a new one requires more effort but as long as you use the basic outline that the orginal used it can be done. I would incourage you to try, you have nothing to lose and you may enjoy the experience.

Okay, so I've been playing around with Microsoft Paint and made a LOT of messes of my photons. In essence, I'm lost. I think what I want to do is, for example, change the stock photon torpedo to another color like red and keep the same hue, saturation and luminescence for each corrsponding shade of blue. Hence, the "look" of the red photon is the same as the original blue, except for the color. Hope I'm making sense here.

That would be VERY cool of you Dogfighter. Any tips on how to make my own homemade torpedoes too?

Kaenye, check this link. This is version 1.0 of mine Pulse Phasers. I've made them for the community use as well as for my SFCNG MOD :) Enjoy http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163336775.0.html

The ph4 texture is the white bar on the fx1.bmp. Be advised ALL phaser colors will be influenced by changes in this space. Subtle gradients can be used if you want to maintain multiple colors. phG seems to be more affected by the lateral portions of this area.
Its cool that everyone has unique textures..personalizes the game.I use  custom textures for every weapon. Many years ago I re-sized the photons since they were ridiculously large.
I don't have a V'ger torp but my plasma snare is kind of similar.
