First...I'd like to thank HB for putting up such a fun and interesting server....the PF floatilla adds a whole new dimension to the game...

Second...I'd urge everyone to give the server a spin...This really is flying eggs with sledghammers...hack and slash... :woot:

Third...After trying it out....post some impressions here for HB and the other server admins to mull over...

I'll kick it off...

I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE A SMALL AREA OF FUTURE MAPS BE RESTRICTED TO FRIGATES, DESTROYERS, AND PF FLOATILLAS AND UTILIZE HB'S SYSTEM OF PF LAUNCH AND CONTROL! ;D

IMHO...This could add an entire new dimension to future servers and be a way to balance in some fleet control 8)

I agree
This is like the server I'd toyed around with the idea of trying to set up (but was always to lazy too)
We should try and incorporate it into the "regular" ones if we can.

Of course it would be nice if Lyrans could get a couple of Ph1's on a PF, but I'll work on that later.

  HB, great job.

Hmmm....one thing....I'd like more model folders for more PF varients.....might make it a little easier to tell what is what in the heat ....hell.....the BLUR of battle...hard enough to tell what they are now ;D

So has anyone figured out what capitol ships or pair of DD's are roughly equal to a floatilla?

Well this afternoon before the server went down I took a scout mission and it was a F-CL and a F-CA against my R-CenE+ and R-CenL w/ 2 Cen+.  I was able to destroy the F-CL and damage the F-CA before it destroyed my R-CenL and I decided to withdraw with my CenE+.  I will tell you 4 phots really hurt when you are in a PF  ;D

I have to say I really like this server.  I took a Data Recovery mission and talk about a fleet engagement.  There was me in my same two ships as above then to my starboard was an AI romulan CenF w/ 4 fighters and a CenS+ then to my port was another R-CenL w/ 2 pf and CenS+.  We were facing off against 3 F-THBf w/ 4 fighters each, 2 F-THBL w/ 2 pf each and 1 F-THBs.  That is 10 pfs + 4 ftrs against 10 pfs and 12 ftrs.  Very intense battle.

Haven't had a chance to check this out yet.  Can I get some opinions as to how well you guys think HB's Implementation of PFs would work on a more "mainstream" type server?

A bit early to tell, but I think the plasma PFs are far superior to the others.

I will admit that the R-CenL loaded with 2 Cen+ pack a massive punch with all of there plasF but they are drone bait.  With only 1 ph1 and 1 ph3 each they are virtually defenseless against drones or after they have shot there wad.

The R-Sth line is a little more well rounded with only 2 plasF and more Phasers.  I would say they are comparable to everybody else's Pfs

Did you check and see if the Rom PFs can cloak? They should be able to. That would help out the drone defense "just a little". ;)

They can but the AI doesn't seem to like to use it and when I jump to the other pf to cloak it the one that I was in decloaks

Havent run up against any plasma chuckers yet...mostly m'iraqi's and freds...

DH...IMHO...I think that maybe PF usage in a SFC miltary theater would parrallel PT boat missions in WW2...

Harrass supply lines..

Project force in isolated areas..

Hunt larger ships in packs...

Attack isolated bases...

Scout enemy forces...

Set up ambushes...

Patrol asteroid laden areas...or just about any area where large ship navagation would be a hazard...

Defend bases....run escorts....transport special forces into enemy territory...

I've noticed when fighting Roms that the CENx's will cloak after they've run out of plasma, much like the line ships.

I've had a couple of fights against line ships, and found that against AI, a G-PFDL (2 PFD+) and PFDm or PFDd is a good match against a CA/CL or CW/DD combo.  What we need to find out is what can be done against a human in a line ship.

I must have the stupid pilots then because mine will fire all the plasma at range 15 then charge right into the enemy uncloaked.

The biggest thing I would like to see introduced to the mainstream servers would be PFs and PF tenders for all empires.   I think that the variety will make some PvP combat much more interesting at times.   Every empire would certainly see the difference PFs can make in a server where mutiple ship fleets are allowed.   There's just nothing like a PF fleet spearheaded by big cruiser or DN.   Ahhh, the good ole days.

Yes, I do know that the loudest cries of "CHEESE"  came during mutiple ship servers, but damn, there were some intense pvp fleet battles.   If we could introduce some PBR (patrol battle rules), it might help some.

Also, if the PFs are introduced to races that don't normally get them offered, the PF tenders really need to be looked at closely.  If the tender does not complement the PFs some then they are useless.   Example, the klink PF tenders used in GW3, armed only with 4 dizzies and some phasers with not enough power to arm the dizzies and maintain any decent speed (in my book, spd 20+).
If those klink PF tenders had 2 dizzies replaced by 1 ADD rack, or 1 Drone rack, the weapon array would be much more compatable to the power curve. (and ultimately, more useful.)   Hell, I would even be in favor of taking all 4 dizzies off and giving the tender 2 drone racks and 1 ADD rack (with same phasers and power).   You might really see some people fly them then.

My whole point here with the PF tenders would be:   Fine tune each tender and PFs to each race.  (and ultimately those races' pilots)

Also, if PFs are available on a more widespread basis, the types of PF tenders available IMHO should be like this:

2 Variants based on War destroyer hull with 4 PFs
2 Casual PF tenders based on Light cruiser or heavy cruiser hull  (casual tender 2 PFs only)
1 Full PF carrier based on heavy cruiser hull.

PFs for all, but balanced for fair play.

Just my humble thoughts,

Agave

Wow what a blast!

I went back and read the rules.  I guess I have to give back my other heavy PF leader. :'(.  Been fighting as a Gorn, against ISC and Rom PF's, and small frigs.  Pretty neat.

Here's my comment.  It might be more controllable if you allowed three leaders, but modified the leaders to carry only one 'wingman' each.  That way you would still have total six on the board, you could more easily keep track of your one 'shuttle', and you could give more commands to your other two subordinate flights.  In other words, it would be three flights of two, not two flights of three.  Also if one of your wingman leaders blew, you only lose 30% of your flight, rather than 50% right as currently organized.  My 2 cents.

Well I am going to go sell my other PFL now.   :D  Great game!

I kinda agree with you as I've done this in my own list.   The PF tenders (pure tenders) for all races seem fine, it's when you get into the casual tenders BCH/DN tenders that things just get a little bit silly.

Taldren's implementation of Casual Tenders is broken.

I just tried it out and it was fun, I wish there were actually people on the server other than just me.

I like the idea of implementing 3 filghts of 2.  It would be easier to keep your PF's under control.
