How do you make coffee...
« on: September 17, 2004, 01:49:51 pm »
Mine is the super discusting way.

You take 5 tablespoons of coffee grounds, put them in a large pitcher, Fill with water. Sit under the Sun times one hour, Pour out the top third to get rid of the floaters. Refill with water. Refigerate, pour out and you have super strong coffee. When there is about 1\4th of the pitcher left filled with coffee water. Fill with water, stir, pour into your wifes flour Bed so she will be pissed, and start over again.

Holy smoke, Batman!

Honestly, how does it taste to you??

I buy whole beans... whatever my fancy or affordablility is at the time, and grind just enough right before I brew it in a drip machine.  I use the drip because it is easy to brew and clean and it delivers a good tasting cup.

Now, my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE method is the vacuum brewer, like you see in small to medium old-fashioned coffee shops- you put the fresh grounds in a hopper or funnel made of aluminum or glass that has a spring loaded plug in it.  This has a rubber adaptor on its neck to be inserted into the pot, which contains the RIGHT AMOUNT of water.  As the water boils, it condenses as liquid water inside the funnel on top, and when just about all the water is boiled up there, you kill the heat and all the liquid, now GREAT coffee, comes back down.  This gives the BEST tasting coffee ever, but I don't use it a home anymore, as I now have an electric stove and the home versions of this brewer will break if you just look at it funny.  But, oh boy, whatta cup!

I don't really care too much for the plunger "bistro" type brewers.

Nice and strong. Dad was the crazy one. He's use the coffee Cup over and over without washing it out. Stated "it added taste".

I might be nuts. But I actually like to chew the beans. Nice and bitter. The old fashioned Indian way.

Hmm, never heard that one.

How do I make coffee?

Double strong with a pinch of salt. Usually use Stabucks Sumatran or someother Pacific Rim (low acid) coffee bean.

I also like to eat the coffee beens, though I prefer mine covered with a little dark chocolate... for the extra caffeene!

The power browns out or blacks out for a minute or thereabouts so often around here, especially in the summer that we just stopped using the time programming feature.  It crashed way too often and didn't brew the next morning!

Bring water to the boil. Open jar of Follgers Crystals. place two tea spoons of Follgers in coffee mug. Add water, and a shot of "Bushmills" ;D

I'm an instant coffee guy....one or two teasppons of granules in a mug, hot water straight from the boil on top....then in goes the milk, two sugars and stir.

The same steps for tea......naturally you take the tea bag out before you put in the milk.

It's Funny, the wife and My Mother usually wakeup before I Do, and the Coffee just Magicly appears on my desk Every Morning.
Anyone remember sneaking the Instant Coffee out of your MRE's during basic? I'd fill one canteen with It, and Carry It with me all day. The next morning I had the Nastiest Excuse for Coffee you could ever Imagine.

Sir... Stephen, coffee usually lasts quite long in terms of temperature and taste if you use a good thermos bottle.  The normal ones with the glass inside are the best, but too fragile for me.  The stainless steel ones are nigh unbreakable, but heavy as a bunch of bricks and it does ever so slightly change the flavor of the coffee.

As for the instant part... and this is for all the instant posters, like we say in Chinese, "Phooey!"

(Although, Taster's Choice is the only instant I can stand for a brief time.  My Grandpa liked instant Maxwell House... taste of a bare spoon in your mouth is better... and Yuban, which was slightly better, but still... )

Ah, chocolate covered espresso beans; if it weren't for all that caffeine in the chocolate, I'd eat more of them  ;)

You stinky, rotten people!

Just because of this thread, I just went downstairs, got out my chocolate espresso bean stash and gobbled a couple... and I just had lunch!

Bad posters... bad...

We say that in Okie also.

This thread reminds me Of when Denise and I first got married. We had agrreed that who ever got out of bed first would make the Coffee. It worked fine for about a week, untill one day, she got up  Went to the restroom for awhile nad came back to bed. I asked If she started the Coffee yet, and she said No, That It was my Job.

My Job, I thought we had an agreement. at which she told me, It's in the Bible that I'm supposed to make the Coffee.

My BS alarm was goiing off, when she explained there's a whole Chapter on It: HEBREWS.

I did it a couple of times. Also later on in AIT we would go to the PX and buy the clear Gatoraid and pour it into our canteens and keep one of them in our lockers in our duffels.

For the smokeless tobacco users on the forums...

Anyone else ever been in the field and run out of dip, so you started 'dipping' the instant coffee from the MRE's?

I will admitt to having been that desperate once or twice.
