Babylon5 (SFC3 Mods)
« on: September 17, 2004, 04:07:32 am »
I know this has been covered before a ton of times on these forums but it needs to be brought up again.
Since I have been working with another game engine in order to create a Babylon5 total conversion. The web-site can be found here
http://holdtheline.dyndns.org/index.php
Currently we are lucky and the game designer is actually rewritting his game engine code to support some of the B5 related features that we must have. Not to mention syntax and coding help.

Sofar things are coming along nicely but in the long run we also want to support other game engine B5 mods. And this is why I am making another posting here.

Hey, i was just browsing the site, and well, im too lazy to sign up there, but i wanted to comment.

Dont forget there was a Psych War too, before Crusade and A Call To Arms. You might want to add that to you commendations list.

What kind of info are you looking for about the Dilgar War?  I can give you an overview of the entire war if you need it.

What is the combat like? Can you just fly around and wait for a mission, or is it linear? Is it freespace, or like a hex map?

Looks great!

Anything on the Dilgar would be great ... One of the big installments is going to be the Dilgar War. Some of the AoG Dilgar ships have already been modeled andd awaiting more materials before they are put into place. If you can post any info on the Dilgar at the Hold the Line sight that would be great.

Btw: Good to see you are still around Firehawk  :)

Well this game can run missions a few ways. One you can just pick a mission and play it out. (mission syntax code is avialable to write your own missions if you have the time.)
You have Campaign Mode, now this is something a little different than what I have seen in a game before. When you start a campaign everything with-in the campaign is preset. The number of ships on each side (Total number not just for one mission), the type and class as well. The star systems that under that Races control , the number of planets ...sun etc... and how each star system interconnects with each other.  Now when you first start out in a campiagn you get to strap your butt the seat of a fighter and try your best to full fill your mission while avoiding from getting waxed by enemy fire. (Easier to say than to do) Now if you fail a mission and have to limp home to your carrier to fight another day there will be a cost. For every ship you loose in campaign mode you loose from your over all total available to your race and this also means fighters as well. As you progess in the missions you gain rank which will allow you to be deployed to other sectors with-in your systems not to mention gain access to Capital ships.

As for combat ..thankfully you can set weapons to "Auto" so you do not have to micro manage so much. This also includes Auto Defense. You have to remember this is moer like a space combat sim burried within an RTS, this is full 360 Degree combat and you have to sstop thinking 2D when playing or it will get you killed.  As an example, if you are out numbered 3 to 1 while engaged in combat around the orbit of a planet and you know your ship is more aerodynamic than the others use that advantage over them enter the Planets Atmosphere and engage them (Thats right you can transit from Space Combat to Air to Air combat where a  different set of physics takes place) Now this could be at your disadvantage when you level the atmosphere and enter back into space. You could have a Capital ship just waiting in orbit to slam a missile up against your hull.

I could go on more about this ...but you might be better off just downloading the Demo just to get a feal for the game. I would highly recommend you have a joystick with rudder control and a Hat for micro thrustering.

Narn Fighter getting pummeled in the Narn System.
We are going to build the entire B5 Galaxy which will allow you un-inhibbated travel from one end of the Galaxy to the other. So if for some reaon you feal like going to Z'ha'dum instead of your normal mission you could do that ...but do not count on passing the mission  ;)

Olympus Taking One for the Team ...  ;D Got to watch those Mimbari!

Nope, I for the most part am only the 2nd Art Work department. DamoclesX has been doing all of the modeling and ship conversion, specing etc ... We have another person by the handle of Col. Blackwolf helping with missions.
