Might want to relook the "launch your PFs asap" and "once out, always out" rules. I flew a 2-ship fleet for a bit and it takes a while to get them out. The rule also takes a bit away from the game since "when to launch" and "when to recover" are big parts of the tactics for carrier/PF ships.
That's a consequence of the concept. Your PFLs aren't really carrying the PFs inside of them. That's just a game mechanic to let you get that many boats into the air at a time. In "reality" you are supposed to be a squadron flying together. Thus, launching and landing your PFs at moments of conveniance simply isn't an option.
This thought was the birth of Squadron Commander. It annoyed me that the crappy Gorn PFTs had to be on the battlefield. The reason they are crappy is because they aren't ever supposed to see the enemy during normal operations. They tow the baots to where they need to go, send them off on a mission, and then wait safely out of harms way until the baots come back flush with victory. I wanted a PF squadron in the shipyard to allow normal PF strike operations. Once I had this thought in mind, a full PF server seemed like fun.
I originally thught of letting you take three PFs, each with the ability to carry one more, giving you a full SFB flotilla of 6. But in playtest this proved too much for me to keep up with in combat and the flotilla conposition rules would have had to be a bit more comples. Others might find it easier to control that many boats, and maybe I'll do it that way in a later server, but I decided to "keep it small" the first time out.
Fi-Cons are a different story. They are carrying their fighters on mech-links, and so this is why you are allowed to hold onto them in a mission until you are ready to launch them. However, Fi-Cons have no means to repair or replenish the fighers they carry. This led to early disasters by the Kzinti, which is why they and most of the other races abandoned the full Fi-con flotilla concept. The Lyrans, however, stuck with it.
Rom FSF is showing in the ISC supply yards. Klingon and Hydrans are showing in the Gorn supply yards. (note I said supply yards, not shipyards)
This is a consequence of donated ships to allow races that don't normally have fighters and PFs to use them anyway. I have to use an entry from one race to donate to another. I mark the donated ship as SPECIAL in the shiplist so that it doesn't show up in the shipyards, but you still see them in the supply yards.
Please don't buy any alien tech in the supply yards. Just stick to the fighers and the PF that belong to your race.
Good game. Very different concept. Still getting use to near instantaneous acceleration.
Thanks! I hope you have fun with it.
