0230, server went down

0236, server still not back up

I'm hooked, Herr Burt!!  Great job on the server!!  These little things are fun!  I'd love to have them as an option in the shipyard for a standard server

EDIT: 0239, server STILL down

I wanna kick some Gorn butt!!!  ;D

Sorry about that.  My ISP went out for a while.  I called the cable company and they already had a team on it.  (As you can see, since I can post again.  ;)  )  It seems there was some storm damage.  And the hurricane isn't even here yet!

I've got the server back up, and I'll keep my fingers crossed that it stays that way for a while.

Glad you like it!

Yeah, I'd love to be able to fly a cheap PF squadron instead of a Frigate.  They're more capable of doing what a frigate was designed for.

oh, and the server's down again (1236)

Server went down around 1400 EDT.

Other stuff HB...

SERVER

It was very sllloooowwwww ... and I was the only one on.  Game counted down to 1:29 before the security check was completed.  Average time to move a hex was 25 seconds.

Mission selection was good for this game.  80% were patrols with the rest being astroid defense, ambush the enemy, and data recovery.

The economy is constantly updating in the news along with other extraneous news items (might be the problem for a slow server).

RULES

Might want to relook the "launch your PFs asap" and "once out, always out" rules.  I flew a 2-ship fleet for a bit and it takes a while to get them out.  The rule also takes a bit away from the game since "when to launch" and "when to recover" are big parts of the tactics for carrier/PF ships.

SHIP/FTR LIST

Rom FSF is showing in the ISC supply yards.  Klingon and Hydrans are showing in the Gorn supply yards. (note I said supply yards, not shipyards)

Good game.  Very different concept.  Still getting use to near instantaneous acceleration. ;)

From what I remember:

You're in a PF, leading a pack of PFs.  Since you can't buy 6 PF fleets, it was decided to make a few PFs "carriers", that deploy the rest of the 6 PF squad.  The PFs can't realistically repair each other in the field, so no redocking.

I thought the Rommie fighers were Gladiators and Tribunes, the FSF etc. are ISC fighters... That's what I get for having a non-military command... instead of spiffy names, they just call everything by it's classification (FSF = Fast Superiority Fighter, PF, INT, etc...)

Same problems.  Server is very slow. 30+ seconds for a move and update of missions/supply buttons slower still 60+ seconds.
occasional timeout on security check.

All of that *could* be a result of Scippy's ISP having problems with the hurricane.  He mentioned they were fixing it last night, and although it's good enough to post with, the bandwidth is probably still a little shoddy for hosting a dyna.

Maybe someone else can host?

This has happened to me twice.
Lyran with BCTL and BCTpL. Do a few missions, go to repair/resupply.... when I call up the supply screen I loose a ship. Once it was the BCTL, the other time the BCTpL. Bit of a bummer.

That's a consequence of the concept.  Your PFLs aren't really carrying the PFs inside of them.  That's just a game mechanic to let you get that many boats into the air at a time.  In "reality" you are supposed to be a squadron flying together.  Thus, launching and landing your PFs at moments of conveniance simply isn't an option.

This thought was the birth of Squadron Commander.  It annoyed me that the crappy Gorn PFTs had to be on the battlefield.  The reason they are crappy is because they aren't ever supposed to see the enemy during normal operations.  They tow the baots to where they need to go, send them off on a mission, and then wait safely out of harms way until the baots come back flush with victory.  I wanted a PF squadron in the shipyard to allow normal PF strike operations.  Once I had this thought in mind, a full PF server seemed like fun.

I originally thught of letting you take three PFs, each with the ability to carry one more, giving you a full SFB flotilla of 6.  But in playtest this proved too much for me to keep up with in combat and the flotilla conposition rules would have had to be a bit more comples.  Others might find it easier to control that many boats, and maybe I'll do it that way in a later server, but I decided to "keep it small" the first time out.

Fi-Cons are a different story.  They are carrying their fighters on mech-links, and so this is why you are allowed to hold onto them in a mission until you are ready to launch them.  However, Fi-Cons have no means to repair or replenish the fighers they carry.  This led to early disasters by the Kzinti, which is why they and most of the other races abandoned the full Fi-con flotilla concept.  The Lyrans, however, stuck with it.

This is a consequence of donated ships to allow races that don't normally have fighters and PFs to use them anyway.  I have to use an entry from one race to donate to another.  I mark the donated ship as SPECIAL in the shiplist so that it doesn't show up in the shipyards, but you still see them in the supply yards.

Please don't buy any alien tech in the supply yards.  Just stick to the fighers and the PF that belong to your race.

HB, there is another problem, i flew the mirak for about ten minutes and w/ the starting ship, FCN+, and MRm the Ph1 will not work at all and it is kind of tough to kill klinks when you run
out of drones. i dont know about the other races except the gorn, which work fine. Mission countdown will time out.

If you list the PFs as BS (or some other nonplayer available hull type) in the donor section of the shiplist, instead of FTR, they won't show in supply dock during campaigns for the donor race's ships. I'm only talking about the "true" PFs that you are purchasing in supply dock, not the PFs that are acting as tenders. When your opponent launches their PFs the display will say that the are base stations not fighters. Of course, they'll be moving though, so you shouldn't have any trouble telling the difference. 8)
NOTE: I have only had the chance to try this in SP campaigns. It should be the same way in MP though

Not a problem here but just something I noted.

D racks only fire against line ships, not against leaders.  I think I see why; the game sees leaders as large ships.

Just something I noticed.

Yep. that's the reason.

I thought about going with offensive plasma D, but that would have forced me to keep the server seeing early era, and that would have played havok with the drone guys.    (Offensive plasD malfunctions in mid and late era)  So I gave you guys the ability to take two ships, with two inside, so that half your squadron would be susceptable to plasD.  (Along with the drones and fighters.)

It was a compromise.  Hopefully it was a good enough compromise to make the game good for both sides.

I haven't been able to duplicate this problem, BUT I BELIEVE YOU!  I had th same problem with th CEN's at first, and fixed it by adding in a phas3.  I assumed that there must be a rounding error in the capacitor, and maybe a unit capacitor of 1.0 wasn't a good idea if it was checking against a real number to see if it was fully charged.

I'm not sure what is going on with your FCN.  I'll keep looking into it and see if I can duplicate and fix the problem.
