They are there because they are decent to good actors for the most part and they help draw attention to the series.

The only other one that I can think of off the top of my head is Armin Shimerman aka Quark from DS9.  He played the head Nox in the episode "The Nox"

**EDIT**  Dwight Schultz aka Lt Reginald Barclay from ST:TNG was in the episode "Gamekeeper"

I'd forgotten about Armin Shimmerman.  I always see him as the Principal on Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi) guest starred in SG-1 Season 4 Episode 7: Watergate as a scientist who was working on the Russian stargate. Her russian accent leaves much to be desired.

yea, but i find its a bad idea to use actor from the startrek series to gain more fan to view the series, i like stargate for the story not the actor from other famous series but for what it is, there nothing that is one way or the other like to stargate, seaquest dsv was a undersea version of tng, a captain that don't like kids a officer who's telephat, a genius kid, and the serie was weird, farscape is weird and adding actor from starwars or startrek will not make me like the show, and for andromeda well its weird and no actor can make it wort watching, for a serie to have success is the story not the fx or the actor from other series, removing them and replacing them by other is not a good idea like what the do for season 8 of sg-1. :-\

While I agree with you on that for the most part, I do have to point out that they are not major characters. They have only been minor characters on one show, with the exception of de Lancie who made it on a few.

how would you know (not to be offencive or anything)... i happen to be very familiar with the Russian language and it was a hole of a lot better then the Russian general played in the sgc on the episode discloser BTW his assistant was Russian

And then their was a scream like no other in the universe

Well, Marina Sirtis has an english accent normally, tainted by a cross with a bit of an American accent since she has been acting. Its quite distinctive. During the episode, she kept slipping back into her normal accent (acting accent, at least).

I don't think they necessarily cast the Trek actors because they are recognizably Trek actors.

time to time the speak about startrek stuff like when the x302 was in space because apophis as put a recall on is glider, sam father says that he's not Scottie he can't beam them out of the ship, and in season 6 episode 8 the 2 scientist was arguing about startrek convation, so since the using trek actor to play other character in sg-1, how will the explain them if the do go to a trek convation ???

SG-1 does the same thing that Buffy the Vampire Slayer does in a few ways. Both shows use references to the real world, people and other popular TV shows as a way to conenct to the audience. Look at how many times Stargate has referred to The Wizard of Oz. They have even referred to McGuyver a couple o times.

One question. Is it just ST references that bother you or just a general thing? Did you know that Claudia Black, I believe that is her name, from Farscape is going to be in SG-1 as an alien who steals the Prometheus?

Two of the script writers actually had a competition to see how many references to the Wizard of Oz they could slip in actually. The reference to McGyver was made in the very first episode was meant to be a humorous in-joke at Richard Dean Anderson's previous series he was well known for. All of this stuff is in the documentaries and 'making of SG-1" type additional material shipped with the DVDs.
