I would love to see a drone federation class.  I would also like to see a drone frigate.  Maybe Okinawa class.

Incredible work guys. The qaulity of the textures are exquisite, even on the fugly Catalunya and Euskal Herria. ;D

I've actually got an idea for the Coronado/Oriskany. What if, instead of the retextured Enterprise hull on the site, you give it a retextured WZ Bellicose hull? The extention on the underside would look great with the Ark Royal doors on them., and make slightly more sense than cutting into the exsisting hull of the Enterprise...

I'd get the Belli meself but Nightsoft is down....AARRRRRGGH!

Look at me with a straight face and say there aren't canon ships uglier than the Catalunya, I thought it looked rather nice but I guess I'm biased, what exactly do you think makes it look ugly? Or 'fugly' to use your term, which is a profanity BTW.

The Coronado/Oriskany is an exercise in recreating an existing ship design, not to make a new one, I'll certainly look into making what you describe from a cut down 'cruiser' version of the Bellicose - i.e. no attachments above the saucer, but that would more resemble my Shangri-La which is a Kirov - like the ones you can see on the site, but with the Ark Royal bays on the sides. Anyway I've got the Bellicose but WZ has made it a bit kitbasher-unfriendly, the neck above the saucer is merged with the saucer so if I delete it there'll be a big hole in the top, also a carrier wouldn't really have big guns mounted to the bridge, it's a very purpose built model and would take a bit of replacing components but I'll have a go once I finish reworking it into a Belknap, which is slow going because of other holes in the mesh when I deleted the original neck. :(

Dawntreader, if you like drone ships what do you think of a drone variant of the Federation? Too much? Too munchkinish?

"There ARE uglier ships than the Cataluyna, just not very many." ;D

How is "fugly" a profanity? It's quite a bit better than something like "f*cking ugly," which I usually see as more seriously than "fugly." I just don't like the lack of any real hull space mainly, not the configuration. (I'm a Tri-nacelle DW junkie. ;D) If the saucer could get some customization or some extensions I'd use it, but it's really a bit too small (mass-wise) for it's job methinks.

I hope you can use WD's Khambatta. I know your looking into it.

Oh yeah, you didn't seem to mind using "fugly" when describing Wallace's Asia-"De"Fit:

Yuck! No offense Wallace it's a beautiful mesh and textures but I despise and loathe TOS ships being 're-imagined' or whatever into the Enterprise style, the Asia is a beautiful ship and this is just, eh, fugly. Some people like that style as pretty much all the posters in this thread so far but as far as I'm concerned the TOS aesthetic is a much better design overall.

Guess it ain't that profane. ;)

I swear like a drunken merchant navy sailor, I'm even known to use the so-called 'c' word on occassion, just not in polite company, anyway I just wanted to know why they were 'fugly' and not just moderately ugly fugly is a contraction of f**king ugly, it just doesn't sound as bad. So if I were to add a structure similar to the miranda's extension, or the extension on the SFB Arizona it'd be okay? Well, I thought about using a different saucer with something like that but I decided in the end that if a Saladin has enough space in the saucer then so does this, it's a war destroyer, it has no role except combat so building a secondary hull just so they can fit in all those science labs and botanical gardens would be kind of pointless IMO. Anyway, if something suitable for a secondary hull turns up I'll kitbash it onto the end of the Catalunya.

Oh and the retrofitted Asia is pug-fugly if I'm to be honest I just can't stand TOS ships done in the Enterprise style it just makes me wanna look at the TOS version I love the simple stark lines of TOS ships and the way that the sparse details really catch your eye because there isn't a carpet of hull panels everywhere. I only liked one human ship from Enterprise and that was the Intrepid which was kind of original in layout, though a bit of a Steamrunner rip-off. ending Enterprise rant.

She was running as fast as she could through the dark, foul smelling swamplands. She quickly looked over her shoulder as she picked herself up off the cold, slimy mud. It was coming, she could feel it's evil glare piercing her flesh as the monster gazed into her very soul. She ran even faster, tripping over and over only to get up and keep running. It was only a matter of time, until it caught her. That was the story she was told as a child, it's victims never got away, sooner or later it caught them, and what it did then, was too horrifying for any sane person to repeat. Then she saw a glimmer of hope, a light shining in the distance, so faint she almost missed it. "I can make it", she said. Running with all of her might, her heart started to leap with joy as the light drew closer and shined a little brighter with each step she took. Then, just as she thought she was safe, it grabbed her. Fear gripping her soul, she looked into it's eyes, eyes that glowed a blazing red, as if they were windows into hell itself. She tried to scream, but it caught in her throat, not even a whimper came out. She wished that she had listened to the old man who warned her about this swamp, warned her of the terror lurking in the dark. It was too late now, as the creatures bared it's fangs, the poor woman thought back on her life. She thought back to a time when she would play on the swingset in her backyard, she thought back to her 12th birthday, the first time she kissed a boy. None of that mattered now, for she was hopelessly in the clutches of the most horrifying creature, ever to walk this earth. A creature that was called simply "the bump".

I thought I'd have a little fun, after all anyone can type bump.

No actually it's my pride and joy, in case you haven't guessed I'm from Sicily and I wanted that name to be a respectable but at the same time non-uber ship, plus I mainly designed this in the spirit of the variants from SOTSF which is remarkably like current navies, each individual ship is often outfitted with slightly different spec, no two Constitutions should ever be exactly the same, take the USS America from the same SOTSF manuals, or the Tikopai subclass. Plus those nacelles (from the USS Raan - a Belknap class cruiser from SOTSF) looked rather nifty IMO ;D

Any update on the other ships yet Rogue? Oh BTW you should have mail in a couple of minutes when I send it, Bismarck regs with the 'c' included this time :) And quite a cool post, reminds me of those dodgy old horror B-movies with some really unconvincing slimey lake monster...

If it isn't too much trouble, could you fix the saucer registries to use the "long" dash in the vessel regsitries? Also, could someone try and see where the Microgamma font is avalible for download?

Here's a great page for proper fonts for Trek ships.

The only thing wrong is that the "Pilot" Enterprise has a slightly different "R."

Well, if my parents did they refuse to own up to it.  I came up with that a few months back when I couldn't sleep.  You have to admit it's far more creative than typing "bump".

Marauth - I'll have an update ready late tomorrow night.  My brother was in town so I didn't get alot done like I was hoping to do, but I am catching up.  I release your other six ships tomorrow night and the BC's on Friday at the latest.

Mariner -  I don't remember where I got the Microgramma font.  Do a search of the forum archives and I am certain you'll be pointed in the right direction.  That is the first place I always check when I am looking for something.  As for the dash, that is something I'll look into on future ships, but unless I find myself with oodles of time on my hands I doubt I will go back to change the ships already finished.  Too much work for something so small.

Hmm, the thing is I'm used the font Starfleet Bold Extended rather than Microgramma Bold Extended, and it seems not to have the extended hyphen, besides which it's hardly noticeable except on ships which bear a letter in the registry like the Enterprises, which mine don't.

Thanks for the update info Rogue, your family is of course more important than us, get the stuff up when you have the time to do so. :)

Just wanted to give you guys a little update.  I have Marauth's seven ships ready to go, I just had to rearrange the hardpoints on a few of them and clean up the mesh on two.  I also took all the snapshots last night.  NOW I just have to convert them to jpeg and upload them along with the files.  The updated site should be available around 9:00pm PST.  The BCs will be released on Saturday, all of them and the renaming kits as well.  Just wanted to keep you guys in the loop.
