Downloads or Dirt?
« on: September 13, 2004, 06:34:52 pm »
What's it going to be, downloads or dirt?

Sadly, dirt seems to be ahead.  I'll need to be getting new batteries for my digital camera.

I'm still having an issue that didn't show itself in skirmish mode, so I wasn't even aware of it until I was trying to verify my map settings yesterday.

Fed Fi-Cons simply won't launch their fighters.  The shuttle bay shows as broken and thus you can't launch anything.  What makes this weird is that the Feds are a fighter race and that it works in skirmish mode.  A couple of other races are broken in this regard as well.

The Lyrans on the other hand, a PF race, can launch fighters from their Fi-Con PFs just fine.  (both in skrimish and in D2 mode)  WTF???

I haven't yet been able to figure out what is fubar'd

Anyway, I've got to get this resolved.  If worse comes to worse, I can delete the Fi-Cons from the Feds and other broken races and just start things.  The real reason to put Fi-Cons in was to give the Lyrans some punch, anyway.  They will still have that even if I take out the lone Fi-Cons from the other races.  (They were the only race to continue using flotillas of them, whereas the Hydrans mixed in one with regular flotillas)

So unless I find a quick miracle, expect some candid shots of me coughing up my dirt lunch.

I'd say don't worry about it.
Just pull all the other fighters and leave the Lyran ones in.
(I assume they're the CavIIIs produced under liscence?)

No need for you to eat dirt, and how many peeps play Lyran anyway?

Try changing the order the races appear in, in the shiplist. Feds usually are first and have problems. Not sure if it will work, but try placing donor cartel races first in the shiplist, if you are using them as donors. A bit of tedious experimentation might be required.

What Tracy said... here is an example of a Fed Fi-Con from SFB-OP that worked on the server:

This should work...

Scripters, techies, admins,

I'd like  you to note that I've confirmed that MagnumMan's shiplist API depends on the Federation race to be first, and will ignore all other races placed before it. That said, I can fix that, but all missions using it (Karnak?) will need to be recompiled.

To the best of my knowledge, I dont think anyone has used Magnum Man's shiplist API in their missions. Awhile back, Dave Wessels claimed that to do so adds quite a lot to the load up time of the mission, thus increasing the chance of players dropping. As a result, there are no D2 mission scripts that use Magnum Man's shiplist tool. The same cannot be said for GSA skirmish missions though, and you, Firesoul, are probably the only person to ever use Magnum Man's shiplist API.

Yeah. For a unused donor race. ;)

Actually, I already did this.  It was my understanding that I *had* to.  The donar race must appear first, as the missions load the first ship in the shiplist to match the ship ID.  (Which jut happens to be the donar race, which just happens to have the proper logic to launch the proper submunitions....)

I've done some tedious bit by bit checks.  At the moment, I'm using a Fed carrier (that works) and stripping it down into a PFf entry by entry.  I'll try using Bonk's entry.

I ran EEK missions on the SFB_OP server, they worked fine. (edit: again, for an unused donor race - this approach seems to work OK, especially considering the potential for cheating if a donor race is used on a server. Note also, that mod disables warp doubling - preventing the pirate donated stuff from warp doubling...)

Tutu was a pretty good idea.  But a Cubby hat is pretty good too (and a hell of a lot easier to find).  And remember, many of us know what you look like.  No pictures of Steven Bartman.

Nah ... on second thought ... dirt.
