So, what good books have you read recently?

I just finished re-reading the Riddlemaster Trilogy (bored, 'cause my wife's in FL and I have no adult supervision)..one of those that get's better each time it's read...have started Lord of Light by Zelazny again...just call him Sam  :D

So what have you read that's worth discussing?

Mike i wanted to recommend The Intregal Trees by Piers Anthoney ( I think but I'm not sure of the author) Really innovative Sci-Fi.
 And excellent story line.

 Its been about 10 years since i read them so I'm a little foggy on the names. But they seem right up your alley, and you are intelligent enough to really appreciate them. :)

 I believe there are 2 books in the series. The Intergal Trees, and The Smoke Ring.

 Try em I'm sure you will love them. :)

They're by Larry Niven and they're both very good!  Inspired by another thread I just finished re-reading The Shiva Option by David Weber and Steve White.

Perhaps you were thinking of the Integral trees, but your mind was in Xanth...

I have read them, quite good, in fact, I believe I've read just about everything from Niven, Pournelle, Asimov, Heinlein....I do have a problem with some of the newer authors tho', sometimes it seems they fill thier novels with fluff so they can do a trilogy when one or two books would have gotten the point across..of course, they gotta eat too.

Zelazny's Amber books are an absolute classic series, and one that gets better with each read.

I am also impressed that, even though it was written 20+ years ago, it is not dated in any way.  The same story could be released in 2004 and it would read fine.

I like what another writer said about Zelazny: "He writes about magic as if it were technology, and writes about technology as if it were magic."  Never has anyone blended scifi and fantasy more seamlessly than Zelazny.

I've just re-read the Farseer trilogy by robin hobb for the 5th time.....and i'm going on to the Tawney man follow on next for the 5th time ;D

I just also read Gene Wollfe the book of the new sun...very good.
And I would also say anything by Reimond E.Feist is worth a read.....I should be having his next book Exiles return in about a week or so...can't wait for it.

I gave my wife the Amber collection (all the novels in one volume)...she is currently with Merlin as he travels in the area between Amber and Chaos..but not in Shadow...I have read them numerous times...

There are always the Dune novels...sad that Chapter House Dune ended without a sequal..tho' Brian is doing an adiquate job writing the prequals..

Oh yes Spider ROCKS!  Makes me wanna go out and find a german shepard that talks!

I've just re-read the Pern books.  All of them in the correct time line not in the order the books were published.

I love Terry Pratchet, Neil Gaiman, Andre Norton, Peirs Anthony, Azimov, and Laurell K. Hamilton.  I'm sure I have more favorites but I can't think of them all!

Ive been reading the "Prelude to Dune" series of books recently- nothing like a good backstory to get the Spice flowing...  ;)
