Well now that we have some MIRV variants, perhaps some other variants could be used....

Was thinking along the lines of smaller specialty ships, nothing fierce in P v P by themselves but useful with a wing.

Imagine:

A King Eagle minus F trorps but with an X gen fast R-Torp

A Gorn Light Cruiser with a plasma snare in place of an S torp

A Klingon boat with 2 heavy dizzies instead of 4 lights

A Kzin vessel with 2 Mirvs instead of 2 b racks and 2 Cs

A Lyran with a couple of ESG lances instead of the standard ESG

etc

point would be to have them as smaller ships for specific type functions but generally inferior in P v P to their standard counterparts when flying without a wingman, but perhaps useful with one, allowing for some creative tactics, similar to a mauler.

What do you think?  interesting or a waste of time?

Problem is, by the time those weapons exist, there already are X variants of the FF/CL/CA classes so why would anyone want to use a standard ship with partial X tech against an actual X ship?

Idea would be to have the partail X tech ships out before the x generation.  Call them prototypes or experimental ships that were designed to test the X-tech before it was implemented fully.

Question:  Are we reviewing 2nd "X" ships.  If so ..  I agree there are several things we can look at to make them "more playable".  It has often been argued that they were "out of balance with the rest of the game".  That statement is true to a point.... but the "X" class is no different than moving form erra to another.  I DO believe that they need some work and that over all while the concept is a good one...  there is just too much "cheese"  (I believe that is the word most commonly asscociated with 2nd gen "X" ships) on that class as a general rule.

To answer your question direct ..  please review this further and look at other aspects as well.

Mmmmmmmmm  Soreyes is quivering with a very nasty thought. Ummm Chuut how about a Z-MDC Fire support ship with 4 MIRV Racks
So Hexx bring on that L-BCH with a Plasma D rack
