goa'uld question
« on: September 05, 2004, 04:22:39 pm »

in the movie sg-1 Ra seem to be energies instead of a symbioses, (when the teleport the bomb to his ship before it explode he was looking like and alien energies life form), so in the series the are symbioses, my question is where the goa'uld came from?, since the need a bodie to life how did the infected of get a bodie, and where did the get there technologies since the don't have a planet where the discover new technologies, i know that the stole it from other but the seem to have all the samething in general, the ship the teleportation ring, etc, and how did the discover the stargate since the never encounter the ancient or did the?,

In the episode "The First Ones"  An SG team w/Daniel Jackson is exploring some goa'uld fossils when he is taken captive by an Unas(the first race to be a host to a goa'uld)  It is discovered that the lake is swarming with goa'uld symbiots.  It is believed that this is the world that both the goa'uld and the unas evolved on.  It is never  explained how they mastered stargate travel and where they got there first tecnologies from.

The difference between the look of the goa'uld in the movie and the series is never explained.  Chalk it up to the inconsistencies that almost always exist when a movie is turned in to a series because of lower bugets, production time, and the need to redo things to make it work in a series.  One of the biggest glaring errors is in the movie it is said that Abedos is on the other side of the known universe but in the series premiere it is stated that it is relatively close to earth within a couple hundred light years.

As far as all of them having the same tech.  I am sure that they steal from each other also or gain the new tech through conquering the goa'uld that has it.  They also seem to share some.  In the epsode where the asgard are including Earth in the protected planets treaty with the goa'uld Nurti tries to Kill Chronos using a personal cloaking shield and framing Tealc.  When it is revealed Yu to some effect says that she is in trouble for hiding it from the system lords.  There is tech differences between them though  Apophis built a large mothership that was destroyed in the season 5 opener.  Anubis has all sorts of ancient tech that he found.  Another reason for them all having alot of the same tech is that the goa'uld have genetic memories so everthing that the queen knew then all of her spawn will know also.

In an interesting sidenote, I'm staying in Memphis at the Peabody hotel.  In the hotel they have a Gould's Day Spa.  Everytime we see it we move the punctuation around a bit and add the extra A.

The thing about the Goa'uld is they are technology scavengers.  They've never truly invented anything of their own.  All they do is find a race with some tech, inhabit various hosts, and learn the tech.  Once it has been assimilated, they can all then learn it and use it.

That episode was Torment of Tantalus. In that show Jackson was watching some old footage taken duing those earlier experiments. The footage shows them moving the inner ring by hand. The same way they did to get back to earth after rescuing Ernest Littlefeld, the guy who went through the gate in 1945. They did not have a computer move the ring, or a DHD, so they just clamped handles on the gate to help move the ring. They have done the manual dialing quite a number of times.

Yeah, they also used manual dialing to escape the prison planet where the super-evil genius woman whose name I can't remember was living.  She later escaped them...
