Economics anyone?
« on: August 30, 2004, 10:11:27 am »
Does anyone here have any background/knowledge in economics?  If so, I would like to as for an opinion or two for an econ class i'm taking.  I need a forecast of what the August unemployment rate will be hwhen it's announced this friday.  Any takers?

One tiny fraction of a percent too high, unless I find a job before then.   :P

Unemployment is one of my least favorite topics as well, since, with three years total of college, and numerous jobs in my record, the military being one, I am unmarketable in any job that would actually pay my bills.  Sorry, but I see no reason busting my butt for $6 an hour when I could get more on wlefare.
But I need this info for a class...

At the risk of sounding stupid, I'm don't understand what your point is.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I would be very uncomfortable taking money from strangers (welfare) because I was in financial difficulties.  There are government programs that exist to help people in dire circumstances, and I s'pose I would take it if I had no other options, but I would not be comfortable with it and would seek to change it as soon as possible.

But I'd be downright ashamed to take that money just because I thought that busting my ass for $6/hour was beneath me.  If I had to work 80 hours per week at $6/hour, I'd do it rather than take the handouts.

And if I did have to work pumping gas, at a fast food restaurant or at a convenience store for $6, in a year-and-a-half I'd be the head manager of that franchise.

That's what I mean by Pride, Clark.  I only ask that you consider it.

If it helps you, I'm not taking any money from the government aside from the money coming in from the VA that is covering my college.
I also don't feel well taking handouts, but I feel like i did pay for my VA benefits in many ways, so I do take advantage of that.  Even then I do my best to not take more than I absolutely need to get to my goal.
So, rather than taking government handouts at this time I simply do without, which is becoming next to impossible now.
I've also swallowed my pride and done the $6 per hour jobs surrounded by HS kids etc, and end up either having to leave or being fired a couple months after being there because of my poor interpersonal skills.

my sister looking for a jobs in transport, the is a demand for employee BUT since you don't have enough experience the won't take you, so how do you get the experience required when no one will take you, or the will take someone from inside to fill the job for less.

for me i received 546.58$/month from social assistance, my rent is 467$/month, the electricity is around 100$/month, the TV cable and INTERNET is around 100$/month, the rent is 12$more per month and i get 9$less per month cause m not alone, so as much as i want i don't have enough to pay for a place, if i return to school i will get a little more but still, for my food well if i count 100$/weeks i can't make it, when i was told to find a place less expansive it make me made, there no place at 175$/month, a room is 200$ to 300$/month, i can't pay less for the phone, the electric bill or my rent, when the government waist money of survey and subvention on big industry so the will not pay taxes for a year, and when a bank manager fraud cause he was depressive and he wanted to live like a millionaire, so if i fraud to get a little more each month so i can pay my bill and have food, it just piss me off when i see them doing real fraud so the can have more that the need to live a decent life, i don't have pay TV or pay per view, i don't play at casino and i don't put more that 3$/month for lottery (that when i buy a few), i go rarely at the movie and i don't drink or smoke, and i don't go out to do some shopping or restaurant, if m alone i can barely pay a 3 1/2.
