Car Question
« on: August 19, 2004, 08:32:34 pm »
I have a 1990 Pontiac Bonneville SE and I am looking for the fuse for the horn. It is not in the main fuse block and the "owners manual" only tells me that some of the fuses may be in a so called convenience panel. Can anyone help me?

It could be on the right hand side of the engine compartment, towards the front...a lot of cars made them "convenient" there..2 fuse panels, and no instructions.

This probably isnt what they are talking about, but my older brother had a LeMans and some of the fuses were in the wire. There was a plug that when pulled apart had a small glass fuse inside.

I have found out that the "convenience" panel is under the dash to the right of the steering column. In looking it over it appears that I will have to tear half the dash apart to get the under dash covers off.

Unfortunately your shade tree is to far away.  ;D I can fix it once I find it although I would like to know exactly where that second block os located so I know what to take off. Under the dash to the right of the steering column is a fairly large target.

At the risk of hijacking this thread, does anyone know why my low coolant light keeps blinking on and off.  The coolant level seems to be good in the radiator and the resevoir tank, but that damn thing still keeps flashing.  Isn't it supposed to either stay on, or not light up?
And why does my car always time things like this so that it's idiot lights go off just when I'm about to need the stupid thing?

Hmm, I know that happens when, of all things, a fuse needs to be replaced sometimes...beleive it or not!  Or an instrument isn't working correctly and needs replacement...but more likely the fuse I would think in that instance...

I saw a car that had both it's turnlight signals doing strange things, but both lights were working.  The mechanic stated it was due to a fuse.

Also there was a light that indicated whether the car needed oil or a guage like that which came on.  The oil was not low, but the light was on.  It was also due to a fuse.

So not lots of experience with it, but seeing those above, perhaps it would be a fuse as well?

And sometimes its not due the fuse--as I found out the hard way years ago!  ;D

I am reasonably certain that it is the fuse. What I find doubly galling is that there are several unused slots in the main fuse block that they should have used. The easiest thing to do may be to just buy one of those hand held horns with the compressed air can and stick my arm out the window and trigger it. :)

You're probably right, I was just hoping it was a telltale sign of something else.  It's incredibly annoying to have it blink on and off all the time.  Wish I had a garage to work on it.
