Need Assistance
« on: August 14, 2004, 05:26:08 pm »
This may have been covered in the past, but I am fairly new to this game (I know, it's been out a while).  Anyway, recently I hooked my computer up to a router so the wife and I could share our cable modem.  Since then, the Dynaverse has not been able to recognize my IP address.  Again, I don't know enough about computers to rectify this on my own.  Therefore, I am seeking assistance with this matter BECAUSE I'M HAVING GAME WITHDRAWALS!!!  Ahem...please forgive that obnoxious outburst, but I'm hurting here.  Ummm....help?

I suggest you start with the network readme in the docs/help directory. It gives a couple of examples of how to get routers set up.

Not sure I can be bothered, but as you are the Doc, can you run an AI standard patrol in 2 minutes in a KRC? If so, there is no problem and I am utterly wrong. If you cannot, then the KRC is a worse ship for AI missions than ones I know can.

Thanks.  I've looked around for the file you mentioned but have been unable to locate it.  Could you be a bit more specific please.  Thanks for your help!

It is located by default (if you did not change install directory) in C:\Program Files\Activision\SFC3\Docs\Help folder..

the file name is :

network_readme.rtf

open with wordpad and look through it...

"You still don't get it, do you?......That's what he does. That's all he does! You can't stop him! It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead!"

I have the same problem...for months now. I have uninstalled sfc3 inc. folders from prog files;
updated xp to sp2, updated video card driver, installed v534b w/firewall and AV software off, visual themes (i think the xp themes are intended) disabled.
I still get a non connection during directplay testhost...

the network readme is not helping, no routers to configure and the firewall is adjusted...even with the firewall off i still cannot connect

Aside from turning on the Firewall (which you should configure to play through), SP2 causes no problems with SFC:TNG. None, not at all. Just reinstalled SFC:TNG to check it out, and all was fine with logging on to servers.

I have had the non connection to Directplay Testhost intermittently even on the release version.
On v500 and v534b i have not been able to connect atall....I wonder what happened 4-6 mos. ago when i was last able to log on...Are the release version servers still up?

Am i one of few with this problem? I have tried everything, exhausting all my resources

If u have a router, check your IP, and make sure the IP is the one you have configured in your "Port Forwarding" setup with the router. to do this(with my linksys router I follow these steps:

1st) start-run- type cmd -enter
Type : ipconfig-enter
(check your comps IP address, mine is 192.168.1.100  Be very careful on the last 3 digits..it can vary each time you configure).

then go back to your routers configuration page(again for linksys, 192.168.1.1)
Then navigate over to Forwarding, put in the pors to open from the instructions given in the network set-up folder, and be SURE theIP address is the one for your current computer(ie 192.168.100). Apply.

cross fingers and engage....
