I just patched up using the Network Install.  Interestingly although it claims to monitor AV software etc, it says it found my Symantec Anti-Virus, but it can't determine the status of my protection.  I know my protection is at full status so I turned off the monitoring.

You'd think they'd be able to talk with Symantec better as they're one of the top companies in that area.

I wonder why MS hasn't gone into the anti-virus business.

Stupid question, they're in the virus hosting business and would you trust MS to keep viruses out when they can't write software without exploits?

They're waiting for Symantec and others to make some changes to their software (changes that will bring their programs more inline wiith some nebulous standard or other) so the new security monitoring can better use the Windows API to determine the status of things like Norton Auto Protect or McAfee Personal Firewall.
