Screw best pilot- who's the most fun?
« on: August 14, 2004, 12:22:28 pm »
OK the best pilot thing is kinda amusing, but I haven't heard of many of the people mentioned on it.
And while I'm sure living in the past is cool...
Who's the guy (or gal) (or Kroma) that you think is best to have at your wing?
Of course it's best over voice chat -only really got mine working but...

- Mine (of course) would be most of the old time Lyrans.
They've got the skills to cover up for my impatience and usually don't start the tbomb shower
until the fights almost over.

DH is someone I don't think I've flown with before GW2 -I had a blast flying with him. (Although I'm sure he can't say the same) It's great listening to him have an aneurysm over TS as I leqarn I'm not flying the way I'm supposed to.

Bear was another great one, again his stress levels when I'm his wing are probably a little high  ( you've never heard someone whine so much when you're supposed to be escorting their VC ship rather than charging in solo)
And of course who can forget a wing who not only fires on you when he notices you're not allied, but drops 16 Wasps on your head as well.

I don't usually fly with wingmen too much - but I'd have to go with Squiggy.  The Original unprecedented, unprovoked allied TBomb attacks were the best.  ;D

For pure fun, it's Mav. (was on GSA several times) For dyna-2 it's DH. Runner up is Green, I enjoyed flying with him in GW1.

Mav, C-Los, Jeff, KRolling, Dizzy(he likes to take those chintzy TMP Fed ships with no PD and go up against the Kitties when I fly with him(come on, a CAI on the Kzin front?)). ;)

Update: after thinking about it, I also have to give kudos to Deadman6, who's just fun to fly with, and always a good wingman. And Thrain. He and I were in a zone one night on GSA. I won't go into detail, but he knows what I'm talking about. ;)

By far it has to be Nail not only the stuff he says on voice chat but the stuff he type during mission has me rolling.
Maverick is also a lot of fun but he is never around anymore  >:(
Kurok is a lot of fun but since he moved and can only get dial up he not on voice chat and doesn't play much eather. >:(

DieHard is without question THE most fun to fly with while using teamspeak, bar none! How he can have a stroke, brain clot and heart failure all at one time AND keep flying correctly is beyond belief. Not to mention telling you what a dumb fack you are for doing X. ;)

t00l aka fartbag aka 762 is a great wingman as well.

Corbo was a good wing on GW2 but of course I normally hate to see his name as he is in a cheesewhiz can. ;)

Bear, deadman6 (lotta Hydrans I fly with) Hooch, LeRoy, Im sure Im forgetting others.

If I had to pick one wing tho, for a combo of skills and being a fun jerkoff on TS, it would be DH followed by t00l.

Oh good lord! There are so many here that I have a blast with when I wing up with them.

Maverick: "Lets go Deep Striking" 8)

Chuut:  "here let me show you how to take on a Mauler ship" :o

DH:  "Why the Hell do you keep flying those small ships" ;D

Deadman6: "Ah Hell save your Drones" :D

Fluf:  "$%#&***  Go right  *%$#@$%!!!!"

I'm not generally used to a lot of cracking up on voice comms, coming mostly from a fleet enviorment where talk is usually kept confined to tactics and battle commands. I sometimes have even gotten anoyed, but, I'm learning to get used to it.
But, I think the funniest times happened for me on RDSL. I'll remember the moment for a very long time: a dozen or so of the Coalition were all in coalition text chat with Skull, hanging on his every word as he typed ever soooo slowly as we struggled with the solving of the 5th and final clue to unlock the lost-tech. The suspense of the moment was broken with KVet's comment on VT "damn! my nipples are getting hard!" I was laughing so hard I couldn't even speak and had to wipe my eyes to even type back to Skull.
There were many other hilarious conversations involving Shadow ships and the little mermaid (DON'T ask)
I thought poor Nail was gonna bust he was laughing so hard...

Most fun is really hard as there are sooooooo many.  But I'll put down a few as extra special.

First is "The Late Night Crew"  from a few servers.  This group included Maverick, Deadman, Agave, Weamz, Entrail, Freedom, Alfman, Lyrkiller, Soreyes, and Hades.

There were times on voice coms that I felt I'd suffocate due to laughing so hard.  The two most memorable experiences were Maverick getting Deadman killed, and a mass deepstrike involving about 6-7 pilots where Maverick had to leave for a few minutes and we all marooned him about 20 hexes behind the lines laughing like hell the whole time.

Second Madelf and Maud Dib they know why, was LMAO that time too.

Third, Gook, whenever he is on voice comms my morale goes up by leaps and bounds, he never fails to provide encouragement when you have a failure or lose a p v p and he never fails to give praise or thanks for hard effort.  In my book he is still THE ULTIMATE LEADER   :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Fourth, Fluf,  the man never gives up, no matter how grim the situation, he was the reason for the win on IDSL all other reasons secondary.  Also for the 16 hour stand with him on a SINGLE HEX holding off the Feds and Hydrans on AOTK.   Just please don't have the planet Murnok on any future servers, I don't know if we have enough 'Nip to sedate Fluf should he ever see that planet again.

Fifth, War Sears and Nail, don't get to fly with them enough, but even when we are fighting it feels like we are on the same side.  Of course when we do get to play on the same side, its almost like we are fighting.... ;D

Sixth, Dizzy, he is as nearly as high strung as Die Hard, and hearing him nearly wet his pants in one 2 v 2 on GW1 was a memory to be cherished.  We pulled out the win, but I swear he needed depends for that mission when he had to weasel and had tons of drones comming in on him.

For teamspeak  have to add KRolling, the singalongs, Hooch impersonations and that damn sexy purring.....Meow Baby!

Honorable mention SPQR Drall trying to learn to fly Mirak....now that was funny to listen to on voice comms.  He did get it eventually, well the basics anyhow....... ;D

Most entertaining to fight, I'd have to say...  J'inn, Fluf, Soreyes...   oh, anyone who says "Oh, no... not you" at mission start up.

Most entertaining wingman, MuadDib, I love the guy, he's like the little brother I killed at age 12.  If I'd let him grow up, he'd be like Dib.

Hands down, Dogmatix is the answer.  Prepare for knowledge being dropped.

Dogmatix is at the same time Bobby Fischer, Jim Carrey, Moe ( 3 Stooges), and Capt. Kirk.

Bobby Fischer:  There isn't a move in this game that he hasn't invented or planned the counter for.  As a tactitian alone, he's head and shoulders above mere mortals.

Jim Carrey:  Or should I say Ace Ventura.  The ONE time I beat him it was my secret agent's (minimatix) doing.  And he still has the wherewithall to say "Alllllllllrighty then" and promptly kicks my ass.

Moe:  In battle you'll hear a "knuck knuck knuck" or a "Quiet Numbskull".  One wouldn't think a Klingon Chancellor would be so free with the bon mots.  Or the inevitable (at the end of battle... I told ya so.....).

Capt. Kirk:  Damn if every freaky 180 or sudden deceleration doesn't work for this mofo.  It's like the spirit of Mr. Rug Himself.. William Freakin Shatner was commanding the vessel.  As I have said many times (as my ship was reduced to particles)  YOU CHEATIN' BASTARD!

Doggy is by far the funnest opponent I'VE FLOWN AGAINST.  Second  would be Chuut, Jinn, or any Gorn with the stones to fly while hammered (yes, that's you Agave).

And I won't forget the Mirak.  But you all don't count.  Point and fire/forget isn't much of a strategy, right Fluf?

  See ya on the servers!

lol, I remember that! I was a freaking drone magnet! OMG! NEVER EVER WEASEL!!!! No choice tho. Man... Yeah... I remember...

"CHUUT! OMG CHUUT! GET OVER HERE!"

"Calm down Diz, I'm turning around."

"NO! You dont understand. I had to weasel. Turn around NOW!"

"You what?"

"I WEASELED! HAVENT YOU BEEN LISTENING! OMG! DRONES EVERYWHERE! HELP CHUUT!"

"Ok Dizzy, omw."

"CHUUT! I'm out of everything! I'm gonna get hit, chuut. Do something! HET! Drop a Tbomb. HURRY! I using my damned drones for PD. Hurry!"

"Hang in there Diz, almost there."

"Keep em off me Chuut. OMG another scatter pack! I'm outta Tbombs Chuut! Quick! It's coming! Drop a mine! ARGHHHH!~ Help!!!"

lol... Yeah, that was a good fight. We won that, er I should say I survived that by the slimest of margins, hehe. You made a good wing on that one chuut... ;) I still watch the film from time to time wondering how I managed to weave thru that web of drones unscathed...

Or Blade, because he always brings a big ol' cheeseboat with him.

The most fun to fly with,Hmmmmmm.

Well it depends for me,D2 would be flying with any of you all who have been around for some time.
D3 would have to be Kortez, him and I just click with each other flying on there.

The most fun on TS would have to be Flufbot.
Hearing him on TS saying "Oh well I just died again" is priceless ;D

Most fun.    Hmmm.

Well, lots of fun to be had flying with many, many pilots in the D2 servers, but here is my top ones.

(1) Maverick - things just seem to happen when "Bucky" is around;   whether he's killing his fellow pilots or getting killed by them; he's got a good attitude of having fun no matter what

(2) "The Late Night Crew"  from a few servers.  This group included Maverick, Deadman, Weamz, Entrail, Freedom, Alfman, Lyrkiller, Soreyes, Chuut, and Hades.    The fun that was had by this group was great.   Whether it was Freedom leading hordes of enemy pilots away as I attack that ISC base in Rommy space for the 9th time, or Maverick saying, "Hey, guys, I've got an idea!" and hearing the questioning groans from everyone else, or Deadman bitching over and over about how Maverick got him killed, etc., etc.,

(3) Chuut - he and I have been friends for over 20 years now.   He goes out of his way to cross the map just to show his ass deep in Gorn space, or just comes up with all kinds of mischevious things which truly backs up his nickname he got from our mutual DT friends.   He truly is "Natas".   Master of Chaos.

(4) Nail - the sarcasm that "drips" from a lot of things he says just cracks me up.

Honorable mention - whoever that Romulan was in RDSL that typed "Hey, I just got killed by a matching set of luggage".   Kudos to you dude.   You stayed and fought when you had 3 GDA pilots against you.   I still laugh at what you said.

Can't forget Gwarlock.   Man, that guys just funny.   He is an absolute 'nut'.

That's it for the moment.

I tend to associate one dominant personality on TS with each dyna campaign I've played on. Stuff that sticks in your mind years after the event.

IDSL:    Toten.  He said something like: "Look at Fluf's cheesy fleet." Just the way he said it was neato.
Skull:  "Yes, he does sound like that"  *points at me*

AOTK:  Fluf.  He said something like:  "We are gonna take Mer'nok and then we're gonna take {forgot planet name} and then we are gonna take...and then we are gonna take...and then we are gonna take"  Sheer determination, there.

SS2:   Die Hard:  "And come draft me...Draft me now...and draft me now...draft me...Stay close. And Fire. PPD. Lemme know when it's ready.  Fire that PPD.  I need you to do something to make yourself a target. Do anything. Fire."  That's when we let Mav off the hook with his Lyran DN.

GW2:  Die Hard: "Scatterpack in the water!! T-Bomb it!!  You *(**(& missed!!"

My apologies to all the wingmen that I've tormented, hehe. :P :P

Once upon a time...I used to actually play this game a lot and I had a lot more fun with it.  This was before kids and working at my current place of employment.  Now, I don't get to play much and when I do, I'm usually so tired and beaten down by RL that my ability to loosen up and have fun like I did in the good ole days is somewhat degraded.

I appreciate Gwarlock's comments....they remided me of these times.  They come fewer and further between, now.  About the last time I can remember having a good time and cracking everyone up on voice comms was during the last weekend of GW1.  Since then, when I have been able to play, I'm usually flying alone and not on voicecomms (as dictated by RL constraints).  I don't feel as "connected" to my friends in this game as I used to.

I remember a time when Coalition/Klingon voice comms were well known to be the most fun....but I think most of the characters that made that the case have moved on to other things (Squiggy, Sockfoot, myself....and others, of course).  I think Klingon chat is a lot more business-like now....not quite a fun as it used to be.  This doesn't mean we're quiet...no..it can be tough to get a word in edgewise!  heheh...

Some of my favorite wingmen...(most of whom I rarely get to fly with anymore, but I have logged a LOT of time with)

Mog - Comes immediately to mind.  We fly well together.  I think our styles mesh pretty well and he's always teaching me something.  Thatr one server where he (G-CDD) and I (K-D5L) flew together terrorizing the famed Blue Plague in their big ships (our side's econ sucked so bad we couldn't even build BCHs) was a time I'll never forget.

KBF-Standarte - The countless hours we have flown together are some of the most fun I've ever had playing this game.  It was great chatting with him in German and since our opponents generally didn't speak it, we could converse openly and the other guy didn't seem to be the wiser...heheh.

Sockfoot - I used to fly with him a great deal.  When he came to the Klingon Empire, he told me he didn't really know squat about flying Klingon and would probably be more a liability than a help and he said that if I didn't want to accept him into the ranks of the Klingons, he'd understand.  He said he liked how we did things and he wanted to be a part of it.  I told him I didn't care how poorly he flew, he was welcome on my wing anytime.  I helped him learn the ropes and by the time he stopped playing, I think he was one of our better pilots.  He was a good friend and helped my leadership efforts back in the day go even better than that might have.  There was no defeating this guy...great spirit.

Squiggy - Squiggy was just a riot to fly with.  Always there with a loving t-bomb.  Our partnering on the old Red Alert server against some of the jerkiest people I've ever met online was a blast...beating up on poorly piloted F-BBs with droners, no less...good stuff.  Sadly, the herculean effort some of us had to put forth during CW6 (and Squiggy was one who did a LOT) killed the game for Squiggy.  I think that was pretty much the last we saw of him when he dropped that campaign towards the end.  I couldn't blame him at the time...when it was all over, I stopped playing for a little over a month...heheh.

KBF-Gow - As far back as CW3, this guy was a rock.  He could put in ther nutter hours and he'd always be flying those small ships (i'm talking the Klingon E-ships) that no one else liked.  He was always experimenting.  He was an old-school, cantankerous Klingon who advidly disliked most "smurfs."  He was murder in an E4D.

KBF-Kor - This guy always felt like a "brother" to me.  I was actually happy that, at one time, he was seriously making plans to move to Phoenix.  RL hit him pretty hard and those plans were scrapped.  It was also about that time that he drifted away from the game, but not before I had accumulated many fond memories of flying with (and against) him.  On RT3, we got to fly a whole bunch together as Syndicate Pirates.  Frankly, that fact was the only reason I had anyone fun flying Syndicate at all (damn, pirate boats suck!).  I'll always remember Kor and Gow, the workhorses of the southern Fed front on CW3.  I'd always be like, "Well, you guys...I can't promise you any help, but I'm going to need your squadron to not only hold the line, but drive deeper into Fred territory."  They had the fewest number of captains on that front but always managed to keep advancing.  When I decided to step down from leadership the first time, Kor was my personal choice to succeed me and he did a great job in a fairly thankless position.

Corbomite - I didn't start getting to know Corbomite until Dizzy's SG2 server.  We were flying ISC together and I flew a lot with him there and then a lot more on SS2  as we again flew ISC.  I guess that's why I think of him as an ISC player, even though I know he flies everything well (haven't seen him fly Klingon yet, though!  ;) ).  Corbo knows this game as well as anyone and I always felt like I learned something new from him all the time (like the way you can make it so your PPDs never fail to gain a lock  :D).  I probably aggravated him a lot with my sloppy team flying.  I was still trying to get use to flying with him and didn't always feel in synch.  However, winging with him was always cool an every co-op PvP I had with him was decided in our favor, I think...well, except one against Chuut where I inexplicably dropped and Corbo lost his cover at a very bad time...hehe.

Kortez (KOTH. XC) - Kortez is always a blast to fly with.  He always has the "best" luck.  His luck is so good, you never know what's going to happen next.  ;)  I mean...when he drops his Caveat-IIIs, you almost expect them to open up on HIM or YOU, rather than the enemy.  Wierd stuff always happens and I've lost track of the number of times we actually go into uphill battles against the AI on SG2 and SS2.  Still, there's no mistaking his skill as either a Kzin or an ISC captain.  He's a smart guy that always fun to have on voice comms.

Blade_XC - I think I like flying with him about as much as I hate flying against him.  It's been ages since I flew Klingon with him, but I got to fly a lot of ISC with him last year and those were good times.

DieHard - For pretty much the same reasons everyone else has mentioned...he's a warrior.  I only flew with him on SS2, but it was a very good time and I hope I get the chance to do it again.  In the mean time, I'll just have to face off against him, which is always fun, too.

These days, I seem to fly a lot of solo, so I don't get to fly that much with the current crop of my KBF Brothers, but when I do it's always a good time.  In the GW series, I've managed to fly a lot with WillWeasel, MuadDib, Lord Krueg and a bit with my old friend WarSears.  MadElf is a hoot to fly with, as well.  Was it GW1 that we were having the tob-bomb fest and I dropped you down to about 60 or 70% hull with a t-bomb shower in that convoy raid?   ;)  That was fun and funny.  I think the first time, you got the better of me because I wasn't expecting it.  You cured me of that mistake quickly enough!

Some of my favorite foes (who still play)?

Any of the KOTH and KAT guys...especially Chuut, Matsukasi, Fluf and Gook.  It rare that I get to fly with you guys and I wish that weren't the case.  In the absence of that, the battles are always good ones.

In the Fred camp, the guys I like to fly against the most are DH, FatherTed, Capt. Jeff and Hooch.  Come to think ot it, it's been a VERY long time since I faced off against ole Jeffy...and almost as long since I had FatherTed in my sights.  Maybe I'll get to play some in GW3 and change that.

Of the current crop of Hydrans, I have the best time flying against guys like Max Power, t00l (762_XC), Deadman6 and Dopler.  Back in the day, I had soem great matches against JD when he flew Hydran.  Now he's a Klingon player and I'm glad of it...heheh.

The Gorn....can't think of a single one of them that isn't as much fun to fly against as they are with.  I have some very good memories of matches against S'Cipio, Agave, and Gwarlock and Doc.  I've faced Kroma a few times going back as far as IDSL and those have been fun, too.  The last time I fought him was me (flying incognito) as a Hydran and him flying Klingon.  Fun match.  Gwarlock is the biggest hoot, though.  They guy is always talking smack..even as he crosses the map boundary in full flight.

As for the races that I usually fly allied with, I can't say I really like fighting against any of them...it never feels right...heheh.  However, I had some fun matches vs. Saxon, Krueg and WarSears on SS2...and the SoulHunter's battle vs. MadElf and Nail on RDSL was a blast.  I just should have stuck to MadElf's tail and either killed him or run him off.  Turning back on Nail was a mistake....grrr...heheh.

Anyway...clearly...I love these threads.  :D
