I know that people, some people anyway, who are in the beta have somthing called an invite, or something, where they can give people an oportunity to try out their new email system. Is there anyone here who has one? I'm curious and I'd like to try it out. Thanks.

Gmail is Google Mail, they provide 1gb of storage free to you! I've been using it for a month or so now with no complaints. It's very slick, but I dont get into the details now.

Sadly I do not have any invites at this time. Some people get em at 6 a whack, I've only ever gotten 1.

If you hear of anybody with invites, have them throw one my way.  I need to get away from hotmail, doesn't provide nearly enough storage.

I think anybody who knows anything about GMail is salivating at the chance to get in on the beta.  What is it, one or two gigs storage, plus completely and easily searchable...*drool*.

Ho much space does Hotmail allot per person? Yahoo just upped theirs to 100mb in a move to try and keep people there.

Hotmail gives two megs at the moment, though I hear they are going to be upping that to much more soon (twenty megs).  If they do that's still not enough, plus the interface for hotmail is a pain in the ass.

Wow, that isn't much at all. No attachments either of appreciable size. Yahoo used to be 4mb and that was terrible. I had to stop usig it for school because it would fill up so dang fast with emails from group members that I would lose things. That wasn't very nice.

How exactly do the invites work...are you alotted a certain number when you create your account, or are they given at random?

By parked, do you mean you have already used them? If they haven't been used, would you mind throwing one my way? Thanks.

I havne't gotten enough email through it to have to use the search functions. :) I now have 5 emaili addresses that people can use to contact me so this one isn't going to be used much. I just wanted to check i out. Oh, and the 1gb storage is nice when people send you very large files and pictures that might not be allowed through my ISP email.

I've been waiting to Get one that I can share, However, i'm guessing with the Google IPO in the works, there are no more Invites. Of course If  I Manage one, I'll be right here with It.

Damn, I wish I had about 5 of them just to get you all started.

Yeah, I got the money for the guitar. I've even spent a good portion of it. Oh, I don't kow if I've said, but it sold for $4050.99. there was a little problem as they used the wrong email address. Once we realized that, things went very smooth.

I know you really want the gmail account but you could always use Yahoo mail. They now have a 100mb limit for each person. That is much better than the 2-4mb that you have now.

As for the invites, I think Staphen has nailed it on the head. With the new IPO and the number of invites that have already been given out, I don't think that any new ones will be released. If I get any, I'll pass them out as well.

I very much like how it groups threads of conversation together.  The only thing I'm curious about is how it handles really long conversations, and how it displays the name of all the participants in the Inbox.

The lack of ability to create folders may take some getting used to, as I'm very organized with my email.  The labelling concept is good though, and may prove more effecient.  Going to have to play around with it more.

You can't store files and such unless they are attachments to emails. I'm also not sure if there is a size restriction for those attachments.

Oh, and the invite is on the way.

Well, I have invites, but some reason, cannot access them.  They are in red, and it will not let me open them to send out.  I tried reconfiguring my Norton, and still no good.  Any ideas?  These things are gathering dust...

Thanks

Nope, still the six after logging in and out. maybe you all gave out more than I and they gave them to you. I gave away all the invites I can. No one I know, who doens't already have one, wants one.
